Got a free BA Amex? Earn 1,000 bonus Avios over the next seven weeks

Links on Head for Points may pay us an affiliate commission. A list of partners is here.

If you have a British Airways American Express card, you can earn up to 1,000 bonus Avios over the next few weeks from a new promotion launched today.

You will earn one bonus Avios for every £2 you spend between now and 25th October, up to 1,000 bonus Avios.

This applies to spend on both the free British Airways American Express and the ‘annual fee’ British Airways Premium Plus American Express.

Earn 1,000 bonus Avios over the next 7 weeks

(EDIT: Or perhaps not. It seems that this offer is only for free BA Amex cardholders. The information supplied to me by Amex yesterday was vague. Apologies for any confusion.)

Do I need to register?

Head over to the American Express website here, log in and look under the ‘Offers’ tab on your British Airways American Express card.

The offer should be showing there. You need to click ‘Save to Card’.

For clarity, I am told that this offer is available to ALL British Airways American Express cardholders. (EDIT: free card only, it seems)

Can supplementary cardholders register too?

No, it seems not.

Earn 1,000 bonus Avios over the next 7 weeks

Is there any other small print?

It looks like the bonus is awarded on a per transaction basis. This means that a £1.99 purchase earns no bonus and a £3.99 purchase only earns 1 bonus Avios.

Online, instore and foreign spend all counts, as does spending made via mobile payment wallets.

Apart from that, it seems very straightforward and well worth putting £2,000 through your card.

It is a good offer with no ‘gotchas’. It should be a way of persuading some people to dig out their BA Amex card from the desk drawer where it was placed after earning the 2-4-1 voucher for the year.

  • Ja says:

I just queried it with Amex asking if they could load the offer. I get very few offers loaded automatically. The person I chatted to (online) didn’t know what I was going on about. They then said it’s only on the BAPP card. Then said the offer was nothing to do with Amex and I would have to contact BA. They finally said they were passing the query over to their team who would come back in 3-5 days

  • Mark says:

Shame it’s free cards only. Not much use to us as a result as we’re earning towards a 241 on my wife’s Premium Plus card currently and that still earns as many or avios than transactions on my free card with the offer!

  • Steve says:

At a penny a point aren’t we only talking about ten quid?

Nice if you get it but not a great worry If you don’t.

Or have I got the wrong mindset for this lark?

  • peter says:

    Can I do 1 £2000 transaction and get 1000 avios or do I need to do 1000x £2 transactions 😀 ?

    • RussellH says:

£2000 worth of transactions, as long as all your transaction are for an even number of whole pounds.
Otherwise, a bit over £2000 – if you can find some way of spending that much within the time frame allowed, which I certainly cannot.

      • Peter says:

Maybe not £2k but I could top up my Bulb account, winter is coming so was wondering if I topped up £1000 if this would result in 500 avios or 1 🙂

  • William Kerr says:

Logged in to Amex free BA card offers at 5.45 pm today and I have the offer and successfully able to load it – GREAT – thanks Rob for featuring… really happy too with The Economist’s mega deal last year – was it 15.000 ? I think so … plus Alan Boswell keeps crediting me with Avios as a bonus every year for the house insurance though won’t do car or m’bike as margins too small (their reates on all their insurances have saved me a fortune and I believe I have been with them 3 years now… also had the IHG free card bonus successfully transferred from IHG points to Avios and credited to my BA Amex … all in all I have got so much from your advice – thanks Rob; Rhyss and anyone else in your office – Bill Kerr, Seaford, Sussex

  • Steve says:

As a smoker, it’s all too easy

  • R says:

Got it on the free Blue one. It was listed under AVIOS (I didn’t spot it in the dozens of offers initially as was looking for the Amex logo, not the Avios logo)

  • Baji Nahid says:

I had this over a week and I have it on my supp too? I just spent 2K the other day aswell so its an easy win for us noobs new to the amex game
