Buy Star Alliance Gold from TAP

TAP Portugal is offering a unique deal. You can buy 132,000 Miles&Go miles AND get six months of Star Alliance Gold status for €718.

We don’t know enough about Miles&Go to say whether 132,000 miles is worth €718 or not, although it is hard to see how it could be a bad deal. You can redeem across all 26 Star Alliance airlines. Just be aware that the miles are drip-fed into your account over 12 months, however.

You really need to do your own research on this one, especially as just six months of Star Gold won’t be hugely useful in the current environment. The offer ends on 30th November.

  • Solitaire says:

TAP deal seems a go – 132,000 buys a round trip First Class redemption to the Middle East on a Star carrier. (6 sectors allowed per round-trip journey – and even a stopover. Tickets date-changeable and refundable too.) It would depend on Tap’s access to Star redemption inventory – maybe a good chance for a Biz redemption somewhere, surely?

    • Rob says:

SWISS does not release F seats for miles and LH only releases 2 weeks before travel to partners. See what I mean about having to know all the small print?

J is fine though and always loads of seats. Had no trouble getting 4 J to DXB for December, booked 2 weeks ago.

      • meta says:

Singapore Airlines don’t release either, so no good in Asia. And getting Star Airlines awards with TAP in any class is apparently mission impossible.

However, it’s easy to get rewards on TAP. West Africa in J is 160k miles in J and that’s from Lisbon. From London, you’ll need to add 15k on top!

      • Solitaire says:

It would appear the full 132k miles are credited after 12 months of instalments. Probably good timing given the current situation. Plenty of options with 132k miles for me – one-way J to Asia or when I’m based in Asia there is round trip F within Asia (eg DPS-SIN-NRT), round trip F Asia-SA (eg NRT-SIN-CPT) or even round trip F Asia-Middle East (CGK-SIN-DXB). Great value for less than £700. Even more options for J class. And if Emirates is your airline of choice it would appear you can redeem them on EK for the same number of miles. Just the risk of redemption availability to consider, it won’t be the access I get to SQ F as a Solitaire! Thanks for the heads up.

    • ChrisW says:

How many first class flights do you think there are on Star Alliance carriers between Europe and the Middle East??

  • At6077 says:

Can’t seem to get the TAP Cyber code to work. Anybody else having issues?

  • southlondonphil says:

TAP 50% off code FRIDAY50 Ts and Cs say “The discount is not valid for discount, business or Top executive fare” so those of you (us!) hankering for a bargain in J to say Cape Town or Cancun are sore disappointed 🙁

    • Rhys says:

Yep, but the 20% cyber monday deal does look like it’s valid for business 🙂

  • David S says:

Forget about going for the Pestana offer and the reference to joining their loyalty scheme. I’ve never come across another scheme where points have such a short life and with not much Customer Empathy. If you travel regularly to Portugal or Brazil you might be ok, but I think in Portugal they have simply closed some hotels for up to 7 month’s due to COVID-19

  • Harry T says:

The Westin Cape Town is £69 a night (converted from ZAR) in January under the Escapes offer, if you’re a Bonvoy member. Booked three nights for £215 after Bonvoy amex currency conversion fee. May be worth looking at!

    • Allan says:

      Nice hotel.
How likely do you think it is that you’ll get there in January?

      • Harry T says:

Unlikely – probably going to move as far forward as possible due to a cancellation.

  • Mouse says:

Suggestion for Rob/Rhys – looking at the TAP status offer, the 132k miles are only earned after 12 months (36k on day 1 then 8k per month for a year) – it might be helpful if that is mentioned in the article in case readers think they can buy the status now and immediately use the points.

  • AndyS says:

I assume the laphroig was a lightning deal that’s now over, as following your link it shows at the full price of 45 quid, even when i’m logged in as a prime member

  • Delbert says:

Bowers & Wilkins PX7 are also down to £219.95 from £350.00 on various retailers websites including Amazon.

    • Adam says:

Bose QC35ii are constantly about 210-220 eur on Amazon DE. Delivered to UK in 5 working days.
