  I got the £100 spend get 1500 avios which is odd as this is not an issue at this time of year to achieve.

  I did not get the Fenwick deal. I suspect that having used such a deal in the past I am excluded this time.

  I have always assumed that they are estimating is what will generate additional spend, rather than what will reward loyalty.
  The marketing types may have spots of naivety in not realising that a Spending Decision Unit may have multiple cards in different names.
  Or they may be incredibly sophisticated using other information about your household to predict such things.

  Annoyed that BA are tapping up GOL, which is like Ryanair. Would prefer a tie up with Azul.

    Have you flown with them? I thought it was gonna be Easyjet, but they give out free snacks, not just one; you get to take a bag of crisps, sweets, and nuts. And also a drink (non-alcoholic). Azul was cool because they had in-seat IFE (10 channel TV) bit that was about it. Funny to watch Friends dubbed in Portuguese though.

    Oh God, yes! It’s amazing how this country’s English teachers are all Literature graduates who struggle to explain the use of the semi-colon. That’s why punctuation is so wrong these days.

  It’s not all algorithm based. Some offers are randomised – that’s one way to find what the customer’s choices are, especially when they are reluctant to spend.

  Re GOL: my one trip pre-Covid is hardly going to be representative but we found all the Brazilian domestic airlines (GOL, Azul, LATAM) gave free nibbles and drinks just like the old days. In fact the whole domestic travel scene was a bit like the ‘old days’. GOL gave us an 8 hour delay before rerouting us on Azul, no fuss, interestingly, the locals were almost impeccably behaved and we had regular nibbles and drink vouchers during the delay. LATAM were OK. I thought Azul best, 2×2 seating on Embraers, strange IFE, but you could help yourself to as many (mostly unhealthy) snacks in flight as you like. And the best thing was the boarding process, this is my phone video where you can get the gist https://youtu.be/0i8D6pXFgR8 but I’m sure there’s better somewhere.

    I can see some people referring to “her indoors” as the “Spending Decision Unit” or “the SDU”, as well !
