I just realised that I have only four days left to give away Hilton Honors Gold status to a friend. This is a special benefit that Hilton Honors gave to all Diamond members in December, but it must be used by 31st January.
As Rhys and my wife already have Hilton Honors Gold status via their American Express Platinum cards, I am going to give it away in a quick competition today.
You only have until midnight tonight, Wednesday, to enter.

What does Hilton Honors Gold status get you?
This is the mid-tier Hilton status. Hilton Honors is generally known for having the best mid-tier benefits in the hotel industry. Gold does not carry a lot of weight in North America, where hotels are overrun with Gold members, but it does often carry respect in Europe and Asia.
The standard requirements for a Hilton Gold are either 20 stays, or 40 nights, or 75,000 Hilton Honors base points in a calendar year. For 2021, these requirements are halved so you only need 10 stays this year to earn Gold status for 2022.
The key benefit here is free breakfast.
You will receive a free breakfast of some sort at all Hilton Honors brands, including Hilton, Conrad, Curio, Waldorf Astoria and DoubleTree hotels.
This is usually but not necessarily full breakfast – at the Conrad New York, for example, I was given a special Gold breakfast menu which allowed me to pick a couple of items from a short list or take a $20 credit off a cooked item. At Hilton Garden Inn you need to select breakfast as your ‘My Way’ benefit. At Waldorf Astoria Dubai The Palm over Christmas, we got full breakfast – a big saving over five nights.
You should also receive some sort of space-available upgrade at most brands. You shouldn’t expect too much, often just the best room in the category you booked. You will also receive two free bottles of water per stay.
The other main benefits of Hilton Honors Gold are:
- 80% bonus points – which soon adds up
- late check-out (not guaranteed)
- 2nd guest stays free (only useful in countries which tend to charge more for two people, eg Germany)
You will also qualify for the ‘book 5 nights and pay for 4’ Hilton Honors redemption benefit which is offered to all status members.
You can see the official list of Hilton Honors Gold benefits here.

How long will your Gold status last if you win?
Your Hilton Honors status will last for exactly one year from the day that I process your upgrade.
As the upgrade has to be triggered by 31st January, your status will run for the rest of 2021 and most of January 2022.
How do you enter?
As usual, we have made it as easy as we can. Simply fill in the form below.
The competition is restricted to UK and Ireland residents only. If you win, I will email you and ask for your Hilton Honors number to process the upgrade – if you are not already a member, you will need to open a free account.
The prize is not transferable. The upgrade can only be processed on an account in the name of the winner.
You are limited to one entry per person.
For clarity, the prize will not extend existing Hilton Honors Gold status by another year. Only enter if you are currently Hilton Honors base level or Hilton Honors Silver, or if you don’t currently have a Hilton Honors account at all.
Hilton is not involved in this competition in any way.
If you cannot see the entry form below, either because you are reading this on a small mobile device or via email, click here to be taken to a hosted online form.
Good luck.

How to earn Hilton Honors points and status from UK credit cards (March 2025)
There are various ways of earning Hilton Honors points from UK credit and debit cards. Many cards also have generous sign-up bonuses.
There are two dedicated Hilton Honors debit cards. These are especially attractive when spending abroad due to the 0% or 0.5% FX fee, depending on card.
You also receive FREE Hilton Honors status for as long as you hold the debit cards – Gold status with the Plus card and Silver status with the basic card. This is a great reason to apply even if you rarely use it.
We reviewed the Hilton Honors Plus Debit Card here and the Hilton Honors Debit Card here.
You can apply for either card here.
SPECIAL OFFER: Until 30th April 2025, the annual fee on the basic Hilton Honors debit card is halved from £60 to £30. The sign-up bonus is also easier to earn – you need to spend £1,000 either in the UK or abroad within three months. The usual bonus rule requires you to spend the full £1,000 outside the UK.
