Maximise your Avios, air miles and hotel points

Up to 2,000 free Nectar points (1,250 Avios) just for opening the app

Links on Head for Points may support the site by paying a commission.  See here for all partner links.

An odd Nectar promotion appeared on Wednesday morning in the Nectar app.

When you open it, you may (or may not, most people have it but not all) see a tile saying ‘Get a Juicy Points Boost’.

Click on it. You get a very short marketing message about the value of registering for weekly Nectar bonus points offers via the app.

Once you’ve done that, you will receive a mystery bonus. I got 400 points but readers have reported bonuses as high as 2,000 Nectar points (1,250 Avios). My wife only got 250, so it varies substantially.

The points post immediately.

Note that if you do not currently have the latest version of the Nectar app on your device, you will be prompted to upgrade before you see your offer.

  • Peggerz says:

+250 for a very regular long time Sainsbury’s shopper. Not unhappy.

  • Arhy says:

    1880 – nice!

  • Scallder says:

Nothing for my wife and I 🙁

  • Alan H says:

970 for me which I wouldn’t have got without seeing this on HfP so nice one thanks.

  • Steve says:

Before lunch, I had nothing showing in the Nectar app, and no update pending in Play Store. Just checked Play Store again now, and an update to the Nectar app has appeared. Installed that and got 420 points. So if you’re on Android, you may need to wait for the update to work its way through the system/check again later.

  • S879 says:

Thanks Rob, reinstalled and got 450. Also got an email to say I’d be getting my 500 bonus Avios for converting Nectar to Avios.

  • Sadie says:

I only got 100 points and am a regular Sainsbury shopper. It said I could have saved 100 points if I used their offers so presumably if I did not shop at Sainsburys regularly I would have accumulated more missed points and been given them back as a bonus. Seems unfair to regular shoppers. The person who got 1,400 probably saved the offers for months and months but never used them.

    • Hotelier says:

I don’t think that is how it worked. I got 1000 points and have used most of the offers recently. My partner has used only a few and got 400 points.

  • Nick says:

I got 750. I didn’t get it until I manually updated the app however, I wasn’t prompted to do so. Worth checking in the Play Store for an update if you’re on Android
