American Express closes ‘Departures’ magazine in the US

American Express is closing its ‘Departures’ travel magazine sent to Platinum and Centurion cardholders, as well as the dedicated ‘Centurion’ magazine.
This New York Post report only refers to the US edition, but as the magazines share a lot of content – and the article talks of all of the magazine staff being fired – it would seem that the titles will end globally.

That said, American Express has confirmed to us that the European edition will continue for the time being.
At its peak, ‘Departures’ reportedly brought in $50 million per year in advertising revenue.
I would not be telling the truth if I said that I actively looked forward to ‘Departures’ dropping onto my doormat. I did get a few useful tips out of it over the years, however, and Amex would occasionally use it to promote card benefits or special deals which they hadn’t bothered notifying anyone about directly.
