American Express Business Platinum repays 110% of my Dell purchases

One of the benefits of having American Express Business Platinum or Business Gold is the annual Dell credit. You MUST opt-in via this page of the American Express website. Once opted in, you will receive:
- £50 Dell statement credit (no minimum spend) every six months for Business Gold cardholders
- £75 Dell statement credit (no minimum spend) every six months for Business Platinum cardholders

The six month periods run from January to June and July to December. This means that if you place a Dell order now to use up your allowance, you can place another in July.
At present, there is another Dell offer running on Business Platinum cards and potentially Business Gold too. You receive 10% cashback on any Dell purchase. You need to opt in to this offer if targetted.
These offers stack as I found out last week. Take a look at this screenshot:

I bought a new laptop bag and a spare mouse for £67.70. The £67.70 was repaid in full as part of my £75 Business Platinum credit for the half year. I also received a further £6.77 credit on top.
This means that Amex is actually paying you to take Dell products away.
If you don’t need any IT equipment, Dell sells a range of laptop bags, briefcases, messenger bags, laptop sleeves and backpacks – see this page of their website.
Remember that the prices shown exclude 20% VAT so if you want 100% of your costs covered you want an item selling for less than £42 + VAT if you have Business Gold or £63 + VAT for Business Platinum. Delivery is free on most items.
Dell also has a decent range of mice, keyboards and monitors which will work with all computers, not just Dell models – details here.
If you really don’t need anything, consider buying non-electrical items (backpack, laptop bag etc) and donating them to a local charity shop. They should sell for a decent amount if still wrapped and you may be able to get tax relief on the sale price as well as pocketing the additional 10% cashback.
If you are happy with an end-of-line or refurbished product, take a look at Dell Outlet here.
Remember that there are currently VERY generous sign-up bonuses on the American Express Business cards for SME’s:
- American Express Business Platinum comes with a 100,000 points bonus – apply here, review here
- American Express Business Gold comes with a 50,000 points bonus – apply here, review here – and is FREE for your first year
New cardmembers will be able to opt in to the Dell cashback offer, as this is a permanent benefit.
