This articles shows you how you can earn Avios points from Tesco Clubcard and how to convert your Tesco Clubcard vouchers into Avios.

Tesco Clubcard is a long-established partner of Avios and British Airways Executive Club.  It is also one of the most generous Tesco Clubcard redemptions.

EDIT: This article is now out of date. The Avios and Tesco Clubcard partnership ended in January 2021.

How do I collect Clubcard points?

The key earning routes are shopping in Tesco (1 point per £1 spent) and buying fuel at Tesco filling stations (1 point per £2 spent).

A lot of other partners have disappeared in recent years.  The biggest remaining partner, Esso, is dropping Clubcard in June 2019 to switch to Nectar.  Tesco has also closed Tesco Direct and Tesco Wine which often ran generous bonus promotions.

You should also keep an eye on Tesco Bank.  You can earn points from the Tesco Clubcard Mastercard (1 Clubcard point per £8 spent, usually no sign-up bonus) and from Tesco Mortgages.  There are occasional promotions for taking out insurance via Tesco.

You can also earn Clubcard points with Tesco Mobile top-ups.

How do I convert Clubcard points to Avios?

You need to use this page of the Tesco website to convert your Clubcard vouchers.

It is also possible to set up auto-convert so that your points are automatically sent over to Tesco Clubcard.  I do not recommend this because you risk missing out on potential special offers from other Clubcard partners.

What is the Avios to Clubcard conversion rate?

1 Tesco Clubcard point is worth 2.4 Avios points.

This is substantially better value than spending your Clubcard points in Tesco stores, where you will only receive 1p per point.  You are basically ‘paying’ 0.4p per Avios on this basis, which is great value.

However, keep an eye on other Clubcard partnersHotels.com is worth a look as you get 3 x the face value of your vouchers, although bookings via Tesco do not qualify for Hotels.com Rewards credit.

There are also various restaurant and ‘days out’ deals worth 3 x the face value of your vouchers.  When compared with these, Avios becomes a little less attractive, but still decent.

Tesco Clubcard is also a partner with Virgin Flying Club at the slightly higher rate of 2.5 miles per 1 Clubcard point.  You can learn more about that partnership here.

Conclusion

Whilst Tesco Clubcard points are harder to earn now than they were 3-4 years ago, they still provide a good opportunity to top up your Avios points.  The conversion rate from Clubcard is not bad either.
