According to this Sky News report yesterday, ex-British Airways Chairman and CEO Alex Cruz has been approached to become Chief Executive of SAS.

Cruz is reportedly one of a small number of candidates identified to succeed Rickard Gustafson, who is leaving to take a job outside the aviation industry.

Alex Cruz to become CEO of SAS

SAS has, arguably, moved closer than most European legacy airlines to becoming a low cost carrier which may be why Cruz is of interest to them. It had little choice, faced with competition from Norwegian.

The airline is a member of Star Alliance and has an established long haul network alongside its short haul operation, albeit with a long haul fleet which is just a 1/10th of the one Cruz oversaw at British Airways.

More news if and when we hear it.

I see Alex as the ‘threat’ candidate. As in if you don’t want X then it’s Alex

  • gareth says:

No point buying IHG points anymore with the latest points redemption changes. While schemes in right mess.

    • Andrew says:

Agree! A huge overnight devaluation of IHG points happened, unannounced on 1 April – undid the goodwill from the 25k spire gift a week before – which is now worth half what it was.

      • Sandgrounder says:

Yep, it’s pretty brutal. I’m glad I’m only holding 40k atm. A booking I made for June has gone up 130% in points, cash unchanged. If I have to cancel for any reason, I won’t be too pleased. Very little value left in the scheme.

        • Lloyd says:

Wow… Inverness HIX gone from 17,500 to 35,000.

          • Dickie H says:

HIX Inverness is still available on Sun 1 Aug for 19k or £136; on Sun 8 Aug it’s 41k or £142. Is there an algorithm that’s kicking in when the hotel is approaching full occupancy?

          • Dickie H says:

Edit – I’ve just seen Rob’s comment below about hotels which may hit 95% occupancy. Maybe HIX Inverness is an example of this in action?

    • Anna says:

There’s a “mystery bonus” certainly been added to the cost of reward nights!!

  • gareth says:

    “Whole!!!

  • Robbyrob says:

Disagree if you get one of the 100pct bonus deals. Yesterday I got 40pct off cash rate for a few nights at IC Tel Aviv in Autumn

    • rj24 says:

That is a pricy hotel at the best of times and points is a great way to get a good deal. Plus Tel Aviv is a great place to visit – enjoy!

      • Lev441 says:

What price per night did you get for the IC TLV? since the devalution a few days ago i’m seeing some crazy prices… The trip i had to cancel for last week, I paid 37,500 a night – the dates i’ve been looking for in the summer are over 75k a night!!

        • Robbyrob says:

58k vs cash price of £348. Bought points at 2 for 1 last winter

  • SydneySwan says:

Do not buy any points. IHG could devalue again tomorrow.

    • memesweeper says:

*Any* scheme could devalue tomorrow. In any scheme try to avoid buying points until you are ready — or as close as possible to ready — to use them.

Does the recent pricing shenanigans and uncertainty change the value proposition of the IHG credit card? probably… but not so much as to stop me using mine I don’t think.

    • YC says:

Counter intuitively, given the recent (what appears to be BIG) deval. Doubt they will be making another negative change too soon.

But ur right, generally now does not make sense to buy points even with the 100% bonus. Number of arbitrage opportunities has narrowed considerably

  • Eugene says:

Just got 40pct discount yesterday on cash using IHG points bought in the 100pct bonus sale for IC TLV. So it’s not all bad…

  • DJ says:

Definitely a big no to IHG points. Can’t be trusted anymore …

  • Mikeact says:

Strange, the Sainsbury card is ‘coming soon’.
