If you’ve wanted to fly to the Maldives or Mauritius on Avios, today is your lucky day.

A lot of availability has suddenly appeared for early next year.

British Airways Avios Maldives

It is not entirely clear why. It is possible that new flights have been added to the schedule, but if that were true then there should be four and not two seats available, but I am mainly seeing just two.

Here is, courtesy of SeatSpy, availabililty for 2 x business class to the Maldives early next year:

Maldives Avios availability

After the end of April …. nothing. I imagine the service will end for the Summer.

As far as I can tell, the data shown is pretty much correct (not 100%, but not bad, because SeatSpy’s data has a lag) as at 4.15pm on Thursday. A lot of seats will have gone quickly to people with a SeatSpy alert set up (details of how to do that here).

Here is Mauritius:

To see this you MUST search from LGW and not LHR.

Happy booking!

How do you get a good rate on a hotel alone to the Maldives, seems that. package with flight always comes out less expensive?

    • Rhys says:

Emyr can probably get you better deals via free inclusions:

    • JP-MCO says:

We’ve always found booking the items as a package works out better than booking the items separately even when you factor in inclusions from a Virtuoso agent. In the vast majority of cases you can’t get things like half board or transfers included without booking a package as these seem to be perks reserved for OTAs. Add into that the fact that premium awards are so difficult to snag and it becomes a no brainer. In recent years O&O have started selling their ‘Island Indulgence’ package which includes half board and transfers but it’s still more expensive than booking a flight + hotel combination.

I agree. I lived in Singapore for 5 years and never went, it always seemed a very expensive trip when I priced it up vs what you can get it for as a package from the UK. secretescapes / luxury escapes etc worth a look

  • MariaJ says:

    Almost all gone now 🙁

    • Rob says:

You should be smiley. It means that HfP readers have got 90% of it.

If you’re upset because you were thinking about moving points across from Amex or rushing through the rest of your spend to trigger a 241 early, you are being unrealistic. These sort of seats need to be booked within hours of appearing and you need to have the points and vouchers ready to go if you are aiming for these sort of rewards.

I am a very lucky bunny because I only triggered by 2nd 241 two weeks ago, after a week of debate about whether I should wait until September. I decided not to wait because I thought it best to combine with my existing banked 241 rather than wait for a Sep voucher with better availability.

      • MariaJ says:

Hi Rob, no, all ready to go. just people were quicker than me. I’m glad HFP readers got them 🙂

      • Mikeact says:

How can you possibly say that 90% of the uptake was the HfP community…..inside information?

  • Simon Pollins says:

Thanks for the heads up. I managed to get 2 Club flights to the Maldives over Christmas & New Year. Unfortunately the hotel prices are ludicrous!

  • ashraj says:

I booked Maldives for first week Feb 2022. Been searching for hotels and the prices are crazy!

I guess i have awhile to find a good deal

For Mauritius, the sudden appearance of availability might be linked to the Government’s announcement this week about the roadmap for re-opening the island to tourism. Please be aware, under the current plans, from 1st October, you will need to have a negative PCR test prior to departure AND be fully vaccinated in order to be able to freely enjoy the island and stay at a hotel of your choice. If you are not fully vaccinated, then you will be required to spend time quarantined in a government approved hotel for up to 2 weeks before being allowed freedom. If you want to visit Mauritius before 1st October, then you will need to spend 14 days quarantined in a hotel regardless of Vaccination status. Further details here:

  • Glenn says:

Thanks for the article. Fri 6am so jumped on and checked availability. Got 2 x Bzz to Mauritius for Easter. Used my 241 Amex voucher three days before the expiry date and my future BA travel voucher from our cancelled 1st Class Singapore trip. Refunded 95k points. Have Titanium Marriott status so looking at St Regis or Westin but just 170k points left in Bonvoy, understand food & bev is expensive so need to source a decent package option.

    • *MissGeekChic* says:

Food and drink is super cheap in Mauritius outside of the hotel resorts! Decent lunch for less than £2
