News: citizenM sale now on, Shangri-La launches new ‘double points’ promotion

News in brief:

citizenM sale now on

We don’t cover citizenM hotels much on Head for Points, since they don’t offer a loyalty programme or miles in any airline scheme.

The chain is growing strongly, however, and it now has 20 hotels including three in London and one in Glasgow.

Those who use it seem to have a level of enthusiasm which is rare amongst hotel brands. We reviewed citizenM New York Times Square as part of our ‘My Favourite Hotels’ series last year. We are hoping to try one out for themselves very soon to see what the fuss is about.

citizenM is running a short sale. It ends on 4th July.

They have kept it simple:

  • all rooms are discounted by 20% from the standard rate
  • you can cancel for free until 2pm on the day of arrival
  • you can book for any date up to 31st December

You can find out more on the citizenM website here.

Shangri-La launches new ‘double points’ promotion

Shangri-La Hotels, which includes the Traders, Kerry and JEN brands, has launched a new double points promotion.

Once registered, you will receive double Golden Circle points on all stays until 31st August.

Golden Circle points can be used for restaurant or bar credit, or for free stays.  Whilst you can also convert points into airline miles, Shangri-La has dropped its partnership with British Airways and has never had one with Virgin Atlantic.

Unlike the similar promotion last Summer, the offer is NOT valid on restaurant and bar spend without a stay.

The offer will double-up with the current ‘double elite nights’ promotion running until 31st July, which gives you two qualifying nights towards status for every night you stay.

You can register for the ‘double points’ offer here.

  • Keely says:

Morning I asked Emyr for a price for Malta but didn’t go back to him as Malta wasn’t put on the green list . We’ve now rescheduled – is Emyr likely to reflect 20% sale prices ? Is it worth going back to him…?

    • TGLoyalty says:

It’s usually just the be best flexible for IHG Marriott Hilton but there can be other deals like 4 for 3, 3 for 2 etc so worth another email

      • Keely says:

Thank you, I’ll go back to him .
Just checked the website anyway and there definitely isn’t a 30% difference regardless of whether I’m logged in or not..! Might be like a DFS sale…

    • Chris Heyes says:

Keely Wow I doubt Emyr can get you a price for Malta
As far as I’m aware he doesn’t sell Islands unless he’s branched out due to covid
      Even so Malta ?

      • Phil says:

Knowing Emyr he’ll probably get a two for one deal including Cyprus.

    • Rob says:

He is always happy to check.

  • Andrew says:

Does anyone know if the Shangri-La double points promotion will stack with bookings made via Emyr? Technically it is not a direct booking with Shangri-La but if all elite benefits are honoured then maybe I’ll get lucky?

  • PJJ says:

£50 off a £200 spend at certain IHG hotels appeared on my Amex BA free card this morning

    • tony says:

Good call – just found it on my Plat card

    • Dave B says:

does anyone know if this is a cumulative spend of £200 (i.e. a number of hotel stays which eventually total £200, to get the £50 off) or you need to spend £200 in one stay?

  • Kevin says:

Got Amex £100 off for £350 on Intercontinental/Kimpton and wondering whether it I can be accumulative spend.

    • Rob says:

Should be, is usually. This isn’t a new offer by the way, it has been sitting there for a month or so.

  • Jason says:

Anyone know if Amex really know whether its spent in a participating hotel or not?
