If you are planning a stay at a Holiday Inn, HI Express, Crowne Plaza, InterContinental, Hotel Indigo etc this Summer, there is an interesting new offer available.

You can earn at least 1,000 Avios on every 2+ night IHG hotel booking.

But it isn’t that simple …..

IHG hotels Avios promotion

How do I earn Avios with IHG?

Most IHG Rewards members choose, unsurprisingly, to collect IHG Rewards points on their stays.

However, if you don’t have an IHG Rewards account, there isn’t much point in collecting a handful of points from a one-off stay. In this scenario, it makes sense to take Avios instead.

As you can see on this page of ba.com, you can earn 2 Avios per $1 spent at most IHG brands if you choose to collect airline miles instead of points. You can make the switch in your IHG Rewards profile.

With this offer, you will earn 1,000 bonus Avios on top of your ‘2 Avios per $1’ base Avios.

This new offer works like this:

  • you must stay by 30th September
  • you must stay for a minimum of two nights
  • your IHG account must be set to earning miles and not points

There is a snag though …. you must book via this special page of ihg.com, which will give you a special ‘partner’ rate. This rate may or may not be as good as the cheapest rate you will find on the main IHG website. Those Avios might not be free …..

Existing bookings do not count because you need to book through the special link above.

One final thought ….

Even if you do collect IHG Rewards points, you may still want to turn on this Avios offer for a cheap stay.

1,000 bonus Avios are worth around £10 in our view.

Let’s imagine that you pay £100 for a cheap two-night Holiday Inn Express stay. After knocking off VAT and converting to $, you would earn 260 Avios at 2 per $1. With the bonus, you would receive 1,260 Avios which we value at £12.60.

It is very unlikely that a cheap two-night Holiday Inn Express stay will get you £12.60-worth of IHG Rewards points. You might want to swap your account from ‘earning points’ to ‘earning miles’ for such stays and claim the 1,000 bonus Avios.

Full details – and the booking link you are forced to use – are on this special page of ihg.com.

PS …. don’t forget American Express cashback

Don’t forget that there are two generous American Express cashback deals on offer for IHG stays this Summer.

You will get £50 cashback on £200 of cumulative spend at selected European Holiday Inn, Holiday Inn Express, Crowne Plaza, Hotel Indigo, voco and Staybridge Suites properties.

You will get £100 cashback on £350 of cumulative spend at selected European InterContinental, Regent and Kimpton hotels.
