It’s back (for some): earn Virgin Points in-store at Morrisons supermarkets

Links on Head for Points may support the site by paying a commission.  See here for all partner links.

Virgin Flying Club has brought back its partnership with Morrisons supermarkets.

You will earn points in Virgin Flying Club for every £1 you spend in-store at Morrisons.

Full details are here.

Virgin Atlantic

You need to log in to see how many Virgin Points you will earn.  The earning rate varies from person to person and you may see nothing at all.

For me:

For purchases under £30, I earn a flat 0.5 Virgin Points per £1

For £30+, I am earning 8 Virgin Points per £1

These rates are only guaranteed until 15th September and may drop to zero after that.

In theory, you cannot earn on:

“Cash Back, Tobacco, Fireworks, Saver Stamps, Postage Stamps, Gift Vouchers, Gift Cards, Infant formula/milk, Lottery Online Game, Instant Tickets, ‘Top-up’ Mobile Phone Cards, E Top-up, Photo Printing, Prescription Medicines or on transactions made within the Café, Dry Cleaning, Petrol Stations, Garden Centres and Pharmacy or outside of the UK.”

However, since gift card purchases are processed at standard tills, you may get the points.

This offer will double up with the current Morrisons cashback offer currently showing on many American Express and MBNA cards.  It may also be available on other credit card cashback reward schemes.

If you don’t collect Virgin Points …..

This offer is part of the Virgin Atlantic in-store shopping scheme.  To sign up, you need to register your credit and debit cards via the link above.   Make sure you register your partners cards as well if they are also likely to visit Morrisons.

If you don’t already have a Virgin Flying Club account, you may want to sign up purely to take advantage of this deal.  The launch of the Virgin Red app (register here) has brought a lot of smaller redemptions into the programme, including food and drink from Greggs from 200 Virgin Points.

PS.  I also have a generous offer of 8 Virgin Points per £1 spent on taxis booked via the Gett app.  This is only valid when paying with a Visa or Mastercard.  You may or may not have an Amex cashback deal for Gett which is better than this.

  • Char Char says:

    0 points for me 🙁

  • AY says:

    Offer not available for me

  • ChrisC says:

Never had Morrison’s on Airtime. Not appearing on MBNA either for me.

  • Andrew says:

Airtime and NatWest combo is probably better for me than Virgin and Amex which I also have.

    • Yorkie Aid says:

+1 for Natwest. Mine has tracked the 10% PLUS the usual 1% for Supermarket spend. 10% on Airtime too. Unfortunately I’m not eligible for SA this time which would have been the cherry on top but still a brilliant offer.

  • Sandgrounder says:

I’ve got 7% Airtime, 7% VA CC, 6 points on my wife’s SA. My virgin card was still registered on her SA from last time. I haven’t had the offer on mine for a while now.

  • AndyW says:

Do you need to go to normal tills for these, or does self service work, does anyone know?

    • Reney says:

I got Virgin airtime using self service machine.

    • Alex Sm says:

Self-service works but you need to pay with a PHYSICAL card, not e-wallet on the phone. I had points declined in the past because of this and got an explicit clarification from Virgin that only payments by pre-registered physical cards count towards points accrual

      • Char Char says:

@Alex sorry I don’t think that’s correct but will see

        • Char Char says:

That message is actually on every instore offer they have, to cover themselves.

    • Dean says:

Self service works but because the cards don’t weigh much it freezes and asks for assistance, but the workaround for that it to put something else on to add weight. I usually take my card out of my wallet and then drop my wallet on and it then clears. If I buy two cards I’ll drop my wallet on for the first and mobile for second.

Sometimes the big Amazon gift cards (the ones with lots of packaging) will be heavy enough but others not.

      • Char Char says:

First one put your keys, then second one replace keys with heavier item ie wallet then third one add the keys again hahaha

        • The Urbanite says:

I find I only have to add weight for every second gift card I scan. Dropping my phone on the scales then picking it up does the trick.

  • mradey says:

    6 miles / £

  • Paul says:

No offer at this time for me (Morrison’s)
