Jet2 says ‘no more face masks’ – will other UK airlines follow?

  I had the misfortune to be on a Ryanair flight in October.
  In the back half of the plane (full plane), I counted approx 10 people wearing masks properly. Rest had them under the chin at best.
  I went to the galley to ask the crew their opinion only to find neither of them were wearing a mask at this point.
  They told me it wasn’t mandatory for them but that it was for the passengers.
  I asked them if they were going to ask all the passengers to put a mask on then, and they said they’d look into it. Obviously they didn’t bother.

  I suspect this is the kind of attitude that is prevalent on airlines that are the first choice for certain breeds of people.

  I hate masks and choose not to wear one unless it is mandatory.
  If it is mandatory, then I ensure I follow the rules and wear one, despite what other people choose to do. I will be happy once masks are no longer required anywhere.

        Indeed. And only a complete clown would hate masks and normally choose not to wear them (so presumably not actually think they are any use) and yet go to the trouble of complaining that people aren’t wearing them…

  As we move out of the pandemic, mask wearing is likely to move ‘for the benefit of others’ [where everyone wears a mask] to ‘for personal benefit’ [where an individual can choose to wear an N95/FFP3 mask, which provides individual benefit]. Now the vast majority of those at risk have been vaccinated, we really do have to move on. Those that don’t want to are more than welcome to wear FFP3 masks which will protect them – not just from coronavirus, but a whole host of respiratory pathogens.
