American Express Platinum drops the monthly £10 Addison Lee credit

  From what Amex say it sounds like a unilateral decision by AL, given the short notice that seems likely…

  “Our partners at Addison Lee have made the decision to end the provision of the Addison Lee Statement Credit benefit from 1 October 2022. You will have until 30 September 2022 to continue using this benefit, after this date, the statement credits will no longer apply.”

  And nothing of value was lost.

  I recently got an AnEx Platinum because the dining credit tipped it over the edge to being a definite increased value to me over the annual fee. After trying some dummy bookings with AL, I didn’t bother adding them into the calculation. Only booking that seemed possible from a few sample locations was from LHR when other taxis were available much cheaper than the £10 credit anyway.

  I view this as a positive development, as despite visiting London once or twice a month, I’ve been unable to get an Addison Lee taxi once this year. Best predicted waiting time I had was 39 mins (usually far longer, or more often not available at all), hopeless if you need to be somewhere (everyone who gets a taxi?) And prior experience was that predicted waiting times were certainly on the optimistic side. So never completed a booking this year. Much quicker and of course more eco-friendly to use a combination of public transport and walking, though obviously can be a hassle with luggage. But I would always try AL first, given the credit, and then be irritated.

  I’d already given up on pre-booking for the same reasons as the first comment – a completely unacceptable situation (which actually pre-dates COVID, but was much worse last year). And complaining is like hitting your head off a brick wall.

  So now I can just delete the app and forget about it. No more frustrations, so definitely an improvement to my life.

  Actually use this, so that is £120 I won’t be seeing if it isn’t replaced.

  Agree AL was almost pointless due to lack of availability – I used twice in 18 months, not living in london, but other times pre-booking was impossible and no available cars for booking ad hoc – uber credit would be much more useful (UK or US only – although like AL outside of big cities coverage is poor, but still could spend when in London)

  AL seem to be focusing on their account business. I use occasionally for work and never have a problem getting a car. On credit card for the same journey it’s impossible
