Yes, you read that right.

Barclaycard and Barclays have just launched what are, easily, the richest Avios promotional deals we have ever seen. If you only respond to one Avios-collecting offer this year, make it this one.

Full details are on the Barclays website here. I strongly recommend reading the information there alongside our article below.

The offer ends on 30th November 2022.

This is a complex offer so we’ve broken it up into four articles:

…. plus the one you’re currently reading:

  • Got the Barclaycard Avios Plus credit card? Get 100,000 bonus Avios for joining Premier Banking with Barclays Avios Rewards

One of these articles should be appropriate for your circumstances.

Only continue reading this article if you have a Barclaycard Avios Plus credit card (the £20 per month version) but have not yet applied for Premier Banking with Barclays Avios Rewards.

Get 100,000 Avios for joining Premier Banking with Barclays Avios Rewards

If you are a Barclaycard Avios Plus cardholder, this is a truly exceptional offer. You are being offered 100,000 Avios – which is worth, in the worst case scenario that you turn it into Nectar points, £800 – for joining Premier Banking with Barclays Avios Rewards (£12 monthly fee, please see terms and conditions below).

The 100,000 Avios bonus is on top of the standard bonus for joining Premier Banking with Barclays Avios Rewards. This will be either 2,500 or 25,000 Avios depending on whether you are an existing or new Barclays current account holder.

You need to keep both Premier Banking with Barclays Avios Rewards and your Barclaycard Avios Plus credit card for four months, starting from the date you open Barclays Avios Rewards. Eligibility and T&Cs apply.

Barclays Avios Rewards terms and conditions

Here are some key things to note about Premier Banking and Barclays Avios Rewards:

  • You can opt in to Barclays Avios Rewards if you’re a Premier Banking or Wealth customer with a personal current account with Barclays – you’ll need to register for the Barclays app and have a British Airways Executive Club account too
  • There’s a £12 monthly fee and you have to opt out of Barclays Blue Rewards and go paperless for all your accounts and services.
  • To access Barclays Avios Rewards in the Barclays app, you need to be over 18.
  • To join and remain eligible for Premier Banking for free you need to have an income of £75,000 or more paid into a Barclays current account or at least £100,000 invested with Barclays. T&Cs apply.

Full details of the offer are here.

How does the 100,000 bonus Avios offer for joining Premier Banking with Barclays Avios Rewards work?

Here are the key details:

  • you need to be an existing Barclaycard Avios Plus cardholder
  • you need to activate Barclays Avios Rewards – it costs £12 per month but comes with 1,500 Avios per month and a British Airways upgrade voucher* every 12 months

In return, you will receive:

From Barclays Avios Rewards:

  • you’ll receive 25,000 Avios if Premier Banking with Barclays Avios Rewards is the first current account you are opening with Barclays and you complete a full switch using the Current Account Switch Service within three months.
  • if you have had an existing Barclays current account (not including Premier Banking with Barclays Avios Rewards) for four months or more already, you’ll receive 2,500 Avios as a joining bonus

On top of the bonus above:

  • you will receive an additional 100,000 Avios if you retain your Barclaycard Avios Plus credit card and your Premier Banking with Barclays Avios Rewards account for at least four months

Click here for the full terms and conditions.

What are the benefits of Premier Banking with Barclays Avios Rewards?

Even without the carrot of an additional 100,000 Avios bonus, Premier Banking – with the Barclays Avios Rewards add-on – is a good deal.

To join Barclays Premier Banking for free, you will need an income of £75,000+ OR at least £100,000 invested with Barclays.

Barclays Avios Rewards is the rewards scheme for Premier Banking and Wealth customers with a personal current account. It is the only way to collect Avios from a UK current account.

This is how it works:

  • There is a £12 monthly fee for Barclays Avios Rewards
  • You receive 1,500 Avios per month
  • You receive a ‘cabin upgrade voucher*’ after 12 months (more details below)

What is important to remember about Barclays Avios Rewards is that – unlike a credit card reward – there is no spend requirement. Once you opt in to Barclays Avios Rewards you will receive monthly Avios and an annual BA upgrade voucher*.

If you join Premier Banking with Barclays Avios Rewards and have a Barclaycard Avios Plus credit card, you could get two upgrade vouchers* each year – one from the credit card, if you meet the £10,000 annual spend target, and one from Barclays Avios Rewards. This would allow you to:

  • upgrade a return flight, in both directions, for two people travelling together, or
  • upgrade a flight in one direction for four people travelling together

Conclusion

This article is aimed at people who have the Barclaycard Avios Plus credit card but have not yet joined Premier Banking with Barclays Avios Rewards.

As an existing Barclaycard Avios Plus credit cardholder, you should find this a very attractive offer:

  • You’ll receive 25,000 Avios if you’re opening your first current account with Barclays and complete a full switch using the Current Account Switcher Service within three months and switch on Barclays Avios Rewards
  • Until 30th November, you will receive 100,000 Avios as an additional bonus for taking out Premier Banking with Barclays Avios Rewards and retaining it alongside your Barclaycard Avios Plus credit card for four months

The bonus for Barclays Avios Rewards is reduced to 2,500 Avios if you have an existing Barclays current account and are upgrading. You will still receive the 100,000 Avios bonus if you meet all of the other criteria. T&C apply. The offer ends on 30th November.

You can find out more, and apply, on this special page of the Barclays website.

NOTE: Whilst the application site is aimed at people who are new to Barclays, you will see that – once you start to apply – you are sent down a different track as an existing Barclaycard Avios Plus cardholder.

*Cabin upgrade vouchers must be used on Avios reward flight bookings. Reward flights and cabin upgrades are subject to availability. Taxes, fees and carrier charges per person apply. Additional terms and conditions apply to the use of the cabin upgrade voucher, please go to here for more information.

  • barry cutters says:

I essentially keep going around in circles. _ get the app, but the app has no mention of bank accounts or how to apply.

    • Jonathan says:

I have the same problem . I have the App and I can’t find the link for the premier account . It keeps telling me to download the App .Frustrating !!!

      • barry cutters says:

I’ve Ended up with both apps now.

Barclaycard app for my Avios, then downloaded the barclays app last night which looks different on the logo but is exactly the same inside.

Neither one seems to offer the current account. under products i can apply for insurance/loans but theres no way to apply for a current account.

      • paul says:

is there any “fix” for this problem – I too have the barclaycard app, but their is no link for the Barclays Premier product

    • Jonathan says:

I’ve just been on the phone to Barclaycard who were helpful but had no idea how to get round the problem .All suggestions they tried failed . I was continuously sent back to the App where there is nowhere to apply for the premier account . What appalling technology .

      • Akkers says:

Same issue here, though haven’t tried making contact with them as I know I will just be passed from pillar to post.

  • Kwasi K says:

After posting, i then saw this on the Premier website:

‘An annual gross income of £75,000 or more paid into it – at least £3,330 each month or £40,000 over the previous 12 months’

Are Barclays allowing deductions for pension, child support etc ?!

  • Dominic says:

Once one accounts for multiple bonuses, my income is above £75k, but is below this without those.

Dim question (new to this pay band!), would I be eligible?

  • jsto says:

Would this work with a joint account? My wife has the Avios Plus credit card but I don’t, as I have the Hilton Barclaycard, which I don’t really want to give up.
Her income is insufficient, but we would meet the criteria with my income, paid into a joint account.

    • Rhys says:

With Barclays Premier, one person has to be able to reach the income criteria by themselves. Join incomes do not qualify.

  • Matty says:

If your income isn’t above the £75k requirement, are you still eligible if you pay the monthly fee of owning a premier current account on top of the Barclays Avios rewards?

  • JP says:

When trying to upgrade I get a “Sorry, something went wrong” message. Hopefully this is just an overwhelmed system?

    • Rhys says:

Possibly. You’ve got until 30th November so no rush 🙂

      • barry cutters says:

is the only way to apply on the app?
My app barclaycard app (avios plus) or barclays – just installed , doesnt have the option to apply for the bank account

  • Joe says:

Went through the in-app sign-up process for the Premier account, got to the final page where it says ‘now we just need to ask a few questions to make sure we offer you the right type of account’ > I put £100,000 into the ‘annual income before tax’ box, tapped next, and it then told me I could have a Barclays standard current account, and that I’m not eligible for Premier because I make less than £75,000 a year… Are you guys at HfP able to forward this on to Barclays as feedback? Something is clearly broken in the app, and now it won’t even let me go back to try again, even when force-quitting the app.

    • Rhys says:

      Very odd. Will feed back.

    • Joe says:

Update: tried to apply online, instead, through the link they offer ‘if you don’t have a UK mobile number & home address’. Went through the process, and it ended with telling me an error has occurred, followed by an email from Barclays telling me I now need to book an appointment with a branch, take in all my ID, and open the account in-branch. WTF?! Anyone else having this experience? Throwback to the Mastercard application nightmares…

    • Rhys says:

Barclays think it is working correctly and that you may have inputted it incorrectly!

      • Joe says:

Interesting… thanks for getting back to me, Rhys! Let’s see what they say when I visit the branch tomorrow to sort it out. Confident I put the 100k number in correctly – but maybe because I left the ‘monthly’ box empty in the app (despite populating the annual income box), perhaps that threw things off.

  • pete says:

does the old rule of “No barclaycard (non-avios one) in the last 6 months otherwise no welcome bonus” apply ? – I cant see this mentioned anywhere now, but it did apply when HFP first broke the news on these new cards some months ago. thanks

    • Rhys says:

Yes. And you won’t be able to get any new Barclaycard if you’ve held one in the past 6 months.

      • pete says:

thanks rhys – thats strange though as no where can i find this – only now does it say

“You won’t be eligible for the additional 25,000 Avios welcome bonus if you’ve had another Barclaycard Avios card in the last 24 months.”

My old Barclaycard that i cancelled last month was not an “AVIOS” card.

        • Rhys says:

Barclaycard in general don’t give you a new Barclaycard if you’ve held one in the past 6 months. That’s a outside of this offer.
