Yes, you read that right.

Barclaycard and Barclays have just launched what are, easily, the richest Avios promotional deals we have ever seen. If you only respond to one Avios-collecting offer this year, make it this one.

Full details are on the Barclays website here. I strongly recommend reading the information there alongside our article below.

The offer ends on 30th November 2022.

This is a complex offer so we’ve broken it up into four articles:

…. plus the one you’re currently reading:

  • Got the Barclaycard Avios Plus credit card? Get 100,000 bonus Avios for joining Premier Banking with Barclays Avios Rewards

One of these articles should be appropriate for your circumstances.

Only continue reading this article if you have a Barclaycard Avios Plus credit card (the £20 per month version) but have not yet applied for Premier Banking with Barclays Avios Rewards.

Get 100,000 Avios for joining Premier Banking with Barclays Avios Rewards

If you are a Barclaycard Avios Plus cardholder, this is a truly exceptional offer. You are being offered 100,000 Avios – which is worth, in the worst case scenario that you turn it into Nectar points, £800 – for joining Premier Banking with Barclays Avios Rewards (£12 monthly fee, please see terms and conditions below).

The 100,000 Avios bonus is on top of the standard bonus for joining Premier Banking with Barclays Avios Rewards. This will be either 2,500 or 25,000 Avios depending on whether you are an existing or new Barclays current account holder.

You need to keep both Premier Banking with Barclays Avios Rewards and your Barclaycard Avios Plus credit card for four months, starting from the date you open Barclays Avios Rewards. Eligibility and T&Cs apply.

Barclays Avios Rewards terms and conditions

Here are some key things to note about Premier Banking and Barclays Avios Rewards:

  • You can opt in to Barclays Avios Rewards if you’re a Premier Banking or Wealth customer with a personal current account with Barclays – you’ll need to register for the Barclays app and have a British Airways Executive Club account too
  • There’s a £12 monthly fee and you have to opt out of Barclays Blue Rewards and go paperless for all your accounts and services.
  • To access Barclays Avios Rewards in the Barclays app, you need to be over 18.
  • To join and remain eligible for Premier Banking for free you need to have an income of £75,000 or more paid into a Barclays current account or at least £100,000 invested with Barclays. T&Cs apply.

Full details of the offer are here.

How does the 100,000 bonus Avios offer for joining Premier Banking with Barclays Avios Rewards work?

Here are the key details:

  • you need to be an existing Barclaycard Avios Plus cardholder
  • you need to activate Barclays Avios Rewards – it costs £12 per month but comes with 1,500 Avios per month and a British Airways upgrade voucher* every 12 months

In return, you will receive:

From Barclays Avios Rewards:

  • you’ll receive 25,000 Avios if Premier Banking with Barclays Avios Rewards is the first current account you are opening with Barclays and you complete a full switch using the Current Account Switch Service within three months.
  • if you have had an existing Barclays current account (not including Premier Banking with Barclays Avios Rewards) for four months or more already, you’ll receive 2,500 Avios as a joining bonus

On top of the bonus above:

  • you will receive an additional 100,000 Avios if you retain your Barclaycard Avios Plus credit card and your Premier Banking with Barclays Avios Rewards account for at least four months

Click here for the full terms and conditions.

What are the benefits of Premier Banking with Barclays Avios Rewards?

Even without the carrot of an additional 100,000 Avios bonus, Premier Banking – with the Barclays Avios Rewards add-on – is a good deal.

To join Barclays Premier Banking for free, you will need an income of £75,000+ OR at least £100,000 invested with Barclays.

Barclays Avios Rewards is the rewards scheme for Premier Banking and Wealth customers with a personal current account. It is the only way to collect Avios from a UK current account.

This is how it works:

  • There is a £12 monthly fee for Barclays Avios Rewards
  • You receive 1,500 Avios per month
  • You receive a ‘cabin upgrade voucher*’ after 12 months (more details below)

What is important to remember about Barclays Avios Rewards is that – unlike a credit card reward – there is no spend requirement. Once you opt in to Barclays Avios Rewards you will receive monthly Avios and an annual BA upgrade voucher*.

If you join Premier Banking with Barclays Avios Rewards and have a Barclaycard Avios Plus credit card, you could get two upgrade vouchers* each year – one from the credit card, if you meet the £10,000 annual spend target, and one from Barclays Avios Rewards. This would allow you to:

  • upgrade a return flight, in both directions, for two people travelling together, or
  • upgrade a flight in one direction for four people travelling together

Conclusion

This article is aimed at people who have the Barclaycard Avios Plus credit card but have not yet joined Premier Banking with Barclays Avios Rewards.

As an existing Barclaycard Avios Plus credit cardholder, you should find this a very attractive offer:

  • You’ll receive 25,000 Avios if you’re opening your first current account with Barclays and complete a full switch using the Current Account Switcher Service within three months and switch on Barclays Avios Rewards
  • Until 30th November, you will receive 100,000 Avios as an additional bonus for taking out Premier Banking with Barclays Avios Rewards and retaining it alongside your Barclaycard Avios Plus credit card for four months

The bonus for Barclays Avios Rewards is reduced to 2,500 Avios if you have an existing Barclays current account and are upgrading. You will still receive the 100,000 Avios bonus if you meet all of the other criteria. T&C apply. The offer ends on 30th November.

You can find out more, and apply, on this special page of the Barclays website.

NOTE: Whilst the application site is aimed at people who are new to Barclays, you will see that – once you start to apply – you are sent down a different track as an existing Barclaycard Avios Plus cardholder.

*Cabin upgrade vouchers must be used on Avios reward flight bookings. Reward flights and cabin upgrades are subject to availability. Taxes, fees and carrier charges per person apply. Additional terms and conditions apply to the use of the cabin upgrade voucher, please go to here for more information.

  • Rob says:

(just worried that on the app when Im going through to the apply now bit it doesn’t mention the 100k avios… is that okay?)

  • Rob says:

Did anyone else get an error “your accounts aren’t eligible; None of the accounts you have with us are eligible for Barclays Avios Rewards”…?

I wonder if it is because I have only JUST joined/created my premier banking (current) account so perhaps need to give it some time to register/realise I have my account…….

    Anyone else have similar issue?

  • Daniel says:

It seems Barclays app is a wee bit messy. Unlike Barclaycard app. I was able to open a new Premier account via Barclay app (Android) in no time. Got sort code and account number. Wow, that was easy. I transferred some money to my new Barclay Premier account and I thought it was all very good to be true and probably jinxed it. Then I wasn’t able to log in back to the app and yesterday I reinstalled the app (wrong move, I know). Then I phoned Premier advisor and she told me such an account never existed regardless the fact I was able to transfer the money to that “nonexisting” account and I saw the money being credited to Barclays Premier account. Under investigation in Barclays and aw their response within 48h.

  • Cj95 says:

Barclays do also offer an option to have premier for £20 a month if you don’t meet the income / investment reqs (or don’t want to).
Do you know if you can go down this route and be eligible for the bonus avios

    • Rhys says:

We’re waiting to hear back from Barclays on this.

      • Rob says:

When I signed up for the premier account it says they won’t assess the income eligibility or charge £20 for the first 12 months. Assume this means I don’t need to fund the account.

  • Max says:

Does nobody know if opening a joint Premier account will qulaify (with one person already Premier/Avios Plus BC holder and the other not yet Barclays customer but holding Avios Plus BC?

  • Robin N says:

Both my wife and I have the Avios plus card. Just applied for a joint premier account. Identity checks came back ok and received an email from Barclays stating
”Thank you for applying for a joint current account with Barclays on 07/10/2022. Please note that we’re currently experiencing high demand and it can take up to 5 weeks to process your application. We’re sorry for any inconvenience.

We’ll write to you both in the next few days with the result of your application. If we need any more information, we’ll get in touch with you.”

    Couple of questions:
    – It didn’t ask for my BAEC number. I’m assuming that will be needed when I sign up to Barclays Avios Rewards once the account is open. Is that correct?
    – It also didn’t ask anything if we have Avios plus or not or if we are existing Barclaycard customers. When the new account is opened – will it just show in both of our Barclays app? Barclays have always been notorious in creating multiple profiles for the same customers (I know this as I worked for them few years ago) and de-duplication process can take 3 months. I hope they have gotten better at this and can link our accounts straightaway.
    – Once the account is open and I have signed up for Avios Rewards, will I still get the 25k bonus if I switched my my wife’s sole account to our joint premier rather than switching mine?
    TIA

    • Rob says:

      1. Correct
      2. You’ll need to trust them that they can match it up from email addresses etc
      3. No idea, I would lean towards Yes though

  • paul says:

I have the Avios plus card and the the IOS barclaycard app. The option to open a bank account just isn’t showing up in the “Products” available to me via the app (I don’t want the offered Loans or Insurance!). App has been refreshed to latest version and I’ve also de-registered & re-registered, but problem still persists. The Barclays variant of the app also has the same problem. Is there any workaround/fix

    • Rhys says:

Have you tried applying via the link in the article?

      • paul says:

yes, I tried the article link and the link directs me to apply via the app…and i should only “apply online” if I do NOT have UK mobile number nor home address nor photo ID….
I have all these so didnt want to “apply online”

        • Philb86 says:

Same for me. Customer service no use. Anyone else have this issue? Any solutions

  • Jason says:

    Existing Barclaycard Avios card holder.
    Applied for current account Wednesday.
Failed ID check, ask me to call to arrange branch appointment.
Barclaycard app then locked me out.
Called Thursday, 30 min wait, gave up.
    Called today, 45 min wait.
Had to reset the barclaycard app.
Appointment made for 5 weeks time.
Then 2 Premier accounts have been opened, visible inside Barclaycard app.
    No access to Barclays app.
    What An Absolute Mess……

    • Jay says:

almost identical experience for me. Also 2 accounts. What’s your plan ahead?

      • Jason says:

I’m going to wait and see what comes in the post.
I can’t believe how and why they make these offers so difficult.

    • robato says:

Almost identical experience but I’m stuck on resetting the barclaycard app. Have had to order a PINsentry. Tried using my Nationwide card reader but the app gave me error “PSE66 There has been a technical failure. Please try again later”. Spoke on the phone with Barclays but got cut-off and couldn’t be bothered to go through the wait and explaining again. I now remember why I closed my Barclays current account after 1 week several years back – they’re absolutely useless!
