The Regent Hong Kong hotel, ex-InterContinental, is opening soon

IHG is, finally, starting to get some momentum behind the tiny Regent luxury hotel chain it acquired in 2018.

We knew from Day 1 that InterContinental Hong Kong would reopen as a Regent after its refurbishment. This hotel was originally built as a Regent and there is a second InterContinental in Hong Kong so it was a no-brainer to swap back.

The bars and restaurants at Regent Hong Kong are now open. The rooms are bookable from 17th March although only standard rooms will be available in the first phase.

Some of the images so far seem a bit, well, dull, but if you have a room overlooking the harbour – with floor to ceiling windows – you won’t care. The photo above is my wife looking out from a Junior Suite in 2017.

You can find out more, and book, here. I can’t see any availability for IHG One Rewards points loaded yet.

We are also expecting an official opening date for Regent Cannes, the ex-InterContinental Carlton, in the coming days. Bookings are already available for later in the year and rates are punchy to put it mildly. The rooms do look good, with many in a brand new extension behind the existing building.

I think the KLM code expired on the 13th of Feb. It was limited to 200 redemptions.

  • Dace says:

Both the Regent’s in HK and Cannes are up by a minimum of 200%, in some months as much as 400%.

    • The Original David says:

Up what? Cash prices, points prices, bookings, staff numbers…? And compared with when?

      • u07ch says:

As I noted before prices are 2-3x what they were. My last stay in March 2020 was 5000 HKD/night for a Superior Suite c526gbp/night. They want 800gbp for a harbour view room in Mid October. Let alone a suite.

Previous prices for the IC Carlton Cannes aren’t really comparable vs the new refurbished Regent as the old place was incredibly run down and had some very major issues in the public areas. The comparison should really be vs the Majestic and Martinez. In any event, having enjoyed rather lower prices through covid, we are unsurprisingly back to where we were, plus inflation and a bit more.

Air France code still appears to work. Rather cheekily tried to see if it would work on a flight change, but it wouldn’t 🙂
