This means, in theory, that today is also the day that you can spend your Virgin Points on flights on any airline in the SkyTeam alliance.

Is it that simple? No, of course not 🙂

How many Virgin Points will I need for a SkyTeam redemption?

Here are the basic rules as we understand them:

  • the pricing below is by sector – if you need to connect, each flight will be priced separately based on the distance of each leg. Pricing is NOT based on the total distance flown.
  • the pricing charts below are one-way – for a return flight, you do NOT add up the total distance and price from that. Each flight must be priced individually based on its own distance.
  • First Class redemptions are not possible on those airlines which offer it
  • you can mix different partners on the same booking online but the call centre agents are encouraged to book each carrier separately to make changes easier to process. I am assuming that you can still interline baggage even though your connecting flight wil be on a separate ticket – SkyTeam is more flexible than oneworld.
  • the website is not able to show all possible permutations of connecting flights but, if you can see a flight combination via the reward booking website of any SkyTeam carrier, the Virgin Atlantic call centre should be able to book it

Anyone seen the VS Reward Flight Finder. Looks good, but needs some serious updates to make it ever so useful. https://travelplus.virginatlantic.com/reward-flight-finder

    • Rob says:

About 5% as useful as SeatSpy!

      • jj says:

Tru, Rob, but it allows Delta availability to be viewed, and SeatSpy doesn’t currently cover Delta. For the niche use-case of connecting flights via the USA, that 5% is pretty useful.

        • AL says:

It’s also incorrect in a number of cases, showing availability when there isn’t any and vice versa.

          • Jim Lovejoy says:

Exactly! I got my award tickets rebooked to flights reward-flight-finder showed no availability.

  • James says:

Will we be able to use Virgin Companion tickets on Skyteam partners?

  • vlcnc says:

We genarally don’t fly west so Virgin hasn’t been terribly useful for me, but with them joining SkyTeam might be an option for us. Just wondering about taxes and how much they would be – in particular in shorthaul on KLM/AF?? On a lot of carriers the taxes are so much that it’s not worth doing a reward ticket verses a cash ticket.

  • BJ says:

Old pricing still appears to apply to AF/KLM today but fews maty be up.

    • Blair Waldorf Salad says:

I’ve checked DXB and it has gone up to 60K one way. Was 50K up to now.

      • BJ says:

Ok, looks like some changes then or perhaps they’re part way through making them. Or do Virgin rates simply reflect the dynamic nature of AF/KLM rates? I searched way out in early November so perhaps that skewed result to lowest low season rates.

  • KARAN GOYAL says:

Hello, where was the table taken from? For a 4,100 mile journey on Air France (LAX to PPT), I was quoted from Virgin Atlantic on the phone that it would cost 42,000 Points for Economy and 185,000 for Points Upper Class [Business]. Should be 25,500 Points for Economy and 75,000 Points for Upper Class according to the table.

    • Rhys says:

      Provided to us by Virgin.

    • Blair Waldorf Salad says:

Sounds like Virgin may have switched to AF’s dynamic award pricing

    • Azza says:

      27,500 – 28th November

Every other date available seems to be 42,000 or 52,000.

  • Dan says:

Anyone know which Sky-Team programme has the quickest access to proper status? My default option is Oneworld, so not really familiar with others players, but sometime ending up on KLM or Virgin or Ita, so it makes sense starting to accumulate in one of them, what’s the quickest programme to lounge access status level (not considering clubhouse restrictions)? Thank you.

  • BA Flyer IHG Stayer says:

    I feel attacked.

They sent me an email with my correct name on it.

Can we use Virgin upgrade vouchers with partner airlines?
