Becky Hill plays Hilton’s Secret Socials gig

Back in May, we told you about a mystery Hilton concert that was to be held at the Canopy by Hilton London City hotel.

Tickets were available for 35,000 Hilton Honors points which we’d value at around £100. You weren’t told who would be performing (past concerts had featured Kylie, Stormzy and Ellie Goulding) but the tickets did include unlimited champagne pre- and post-concert as well as substantial canapes.

I’m not sure how many tickets were made available but it was a significantly smaller venue than the Stormzy gig last winter. It was good to see that at least four went to Head for Points readers who said hi to me on the night. (My ticket was gifted by Hilton Honors.)

This is only the second time that Hilton Honors members have been invited to one of these events. They are separate to the summer gigs that Hilton used to run pre-covid which were exclusively for Hilton Honors members, and included Bastille and Jessie J in recent years.

The seats are usually given to surprised hotel guests who just happen to be booked in that night, with others going to Hilton’s charity partners and members of the artist’s fan club.

And the special guest on Wednesday night? Becky Hill. There can’t have been more than 75 people in Canopy’s rooftop bar. There are stunning views of the City from here:

Becky Hill did a set of 45-minute or so, whizzing through her hits before handing over to DJ Jodie Harsh who rounded the night out. I left at 10:30 but I hear the night went on into the small hours of the morning.

Moet & Chandon was available throughout the night and the Canopy put on an excellent spread of canapes, including beef tacos, some of the most delicious sausage rolls I have ever had (sorry Greggs!), chicken satay and tempura prawns.

We’ll let you know when tickets for the next Secret Socials gig become available, but they have become a victim of their own success and are snapped up very quickly.

Gutted not to get a ticket. Haven’t seen Jodie since my DJ days, she was a regular and quite a good friend back in the noughties. She got a lot of s**t but she was actually a really nice and very intelligent gal.

Would have been great to bump into her again.

As someone who loves in Southampton and can see the airport (just) in the distance on my lunch walks… I never noticed any roadworks or construction at all!

Hopefully we will see more airlines arrive here in time 🙂

Haven’t flown from here in years!

  • TimM says:

I thought Southampton was only where you joined the liner to New York. Fancy having an airport too.

Bernard Hill was ‘Give uz a job’ Yosser who finally rose to captain of the Titanic on its maiden voyage from Southampton. I am glad he can still sing.

  • Andy says:

Got to wonder why both Southampton and Bournemouth need an airports, doesn’t their close proximity mean they’re competing for the same traffic?

    • drdan says:

SOU is on the train line, 30 seconds from train to security, direct from London Waterloo in just over an hour.

BOH in the middle of a giant field out of town with a bus from the rail station to it.

      • Rob says:

Even living in West London I find Southampton perfectly acceptable vs Stansted or Luton. The genius bit is, as you say, the ludicrously quick trip from station to lounge. If easyJet starts using it I can see myself down there more.

        • Mikeact says:

I for one have used it for years, when it really was a tin pot shed.. or two. Ideal for AMS or CDG connections. Just need a direct flight to MAD now and we’re sorted for Iberia.

      • Hugo says:

And a really useless bus service that does not serve all flights!

  • rob keane says:

never heard of Jodie Harsh. A quick goggle says drag queen. And Becky hill, another name that means nothing to me. Not that i had any intention on doing so, but that woulda been one hell of a waste of 30K points for me.

    • Rhys says:

You can have fun even if you don’t know who they are 🙂

    • Rob says:

Becky Hill I admit means nothing (“she’s like an ex-emo Anika, Dad” said my 15 year old, not entirely helpfully) but Jodie is quite well known (and I say that as a 50+ straight guy).

      • Gordon says:

Becky Hill, Got quite a lot of coverage on Greg James show on Radio 1, That’s the only reason I heard of her!

      • Kevin C says:

Becky Hill was on the Voice, has had a lot of hits and sang before the women’s euros final last year. Her new single is currently in the top ten.

    • Dubious says:

Never mind Becky – I could be tempted to part with 30,000 points to see Harry Hill.

  • babyg says:

Secret Hilton: – were the two gentlemen in the bottom left of the picture HfPers… ? A wild guess, but not only does their attire fit the HFp demographic they seem to be discussing points vs enjoying the show..

  • Super Secret Stuff says:

    Damn I love Becky hill

  • Just Nick says:

I have to confess to being in the picture at the bottom right. It was a really great event from start to finish. Lovely to meet Rhys before the gig started, and we used that time to cover the serious business of points.
