Qatar Airways opens a lot of additional Avios reward availability

Reports on a number of US frequent flyer sites suggest that Qatar Airways has opened up a lot of additional seats for Avios redemption towards the end of the current booking window (October / November 2024).

These seats are booking at standard rates and not the ‘Q2’ ‘double points’ rates which are becoming increasingly prevalent.

Given how many routes Qatar Airways operates it is difficult to independently verify this, especially as Qatar Airways also adjusts redemption availability by starting point. Someone booking from London – where cash fares are higher and so Avios seats are tighter – may not be shown a seat that someone starting in, say, Dublin would see.

That said, if you were thinking of a trip to Asia, Africa, the Middle East, India, Maldives etc for the second half of 2024 then you may want to take a fresh look.

In theory, Qatar Airways availability and pricing for Avios seats is the same at both ba.com and qatarairways.com. In reality this isn’t always the case so it is worth checking both sites.
