British Airways lounge at Edinburgh Airport to close on Sunday for refurbishment

The British Airways lounge upgrade programme, which has recently seen the Heathrow Terminal 5B lounge get an overhaul and new furniture added to Galleries First, is heading north.

The (surprisingly large) BA lounge at Edinburgh Airport will close on Sunday for three weeks for refurbishment.

This isn’t a bad lounge – the sheer size of it means that you can usually find somewhere quiet to sit and there is enough variety of furnishings to keep both business and leisure passengers happy.

Our 2022 review of the British Airways Edinburgh lounge is here – we might pop back after Christmas to see what is new.

British Airways could not confirm which lounge would be used as the alternative, although it appears to be the Aspire lounge by Gate 4, as this is currently unavailable for cash bookings. Our recent 2023 review of the Aspire lounge by Gate 4 (there are two Aspire lounges so make sure you head to the right one) is here.

If you have a Priority Pass airport lounge club card, I would recommend the Plaza Premium lounge (review here) instead which is a far more pleasant space.

  • Flyoff says:

A frustration I have is BA never notifies when it has settled a refund when it cancels a flight. It’s on my list this weekend to try and reconcile Avios and cash.

  • Tom Baum says:

Thanks for the information on Edinburgh. I am flying out from EDI with Qatar – the BA Lounge is what they normally offer, pre-flight. Any idea what arrangements Qatar have made?

  • Sam says:

Raised a claim for Cathay after delays end of July, finally got a response yesterday. 4 months, shocking!

  • BJ says:

Lounge: if anybody is flying Qatar business this week could they please report back on lounge, thanks.

BA ‘Claim’: expressed my concerns last few days of July. Positive response 10-11 weeks later. 10k avios each for unnecessarily putting us in Y on a later connection (an hour later in the end) in ET on a longhaul CW award flight from HKG. Technically we were entitled to nothing given length of delay and domestic connections being ‘free’ so I just accepted, 10k or nothing being what I anticipated.

    • RK says:

I flew and used Qatar lounge in T4 the other day, very nice and quiet, they have 2 sit down formal dining areas. Hope that helps.

      • BJ says:

We’re talking EDI, as much as I like their T4 lounge I don’t fancy the detour 🙂

  • Linda says:

I waited 6 months for settlement of a compensation claim submitted in May this year. The cancellation of that one flight led to all flights on my ticket (ABZ-LHR-FCO and subsequent return flights) being cancelled. No rebooking was possible as BA had suffered a global IT failure and all flights were grounded.

BA only advised me the first flight from ABZ was cancelled but there were 4 flights ticketed on the booking. My claim was for all 4 flights, but I only received compensation for the first flight.

As a consequence I’m now 4 flights short of maintaining my Silver status this month.

  • Jenny Reed says:

Took 9 weeks to get BA to agree to reimburse my emergency purchases after my luggage was temporarily lost/delayed by 5 days, and even then only because I chased it up – if I hadn’t, I have to wonder if I would have been paid by now.

If you want to read some real horror stories, try the BA complaints Facebook group.

  • P4D says:

Thanks Rob, waiting on €1,200 for cancelled flight end of October. I guess I should keep an eye on in February then…

  • AET says:

Luckily, I’ve not had to file with BA for delay/cancellation comp recently. I was truly impressed with U2, who acknowledged an August claim automatically, sent me a confirmation I’m eligible for compensation 2 min later, and the money was in my bank account within a week.
