British Airways lounge at Edinburgh Airport to close on Sunday for refurbishment

The British Airways lounge upgrade programme, which has recently seen the Heathrow Terminal 5B lounge get an overhaul and new furniture added to Galleries First, is heading north.

The (surprisingly large) BA lounge at Edinburgh Airport will close on Sunday for three weeks for refurbishment.

This isn’t a bad lounge – the sheer size of it means that you can usually find somewhere quiet to sit and there is enough variety of furnishings to keep both business and leisure passengers happy.

Our 2022 review of the British Airways Edinburgh lounge is here – we might pop back after Christmas to see what is new.

British Airways could not confirm which lounge would be used as the alternative, although it appears to be the Aspire lounge by Gate 4, as this is currently unavailable for cash bookings. Our recent 2023 review of the Aspire lounge by Gate 4 (there are two Aspire lounges so make sure you head to the right one) is here.

If you have a Priority Pass airport lounge club card, I would recommend the Plaza Premium lounge (review here) instead which is a far more pleasant space.

  • Dubious says:

Wow, they are quicker than the time my employer takes to reimburse expenses!

  • Richard says:

And we continue to fly with them (me included)!
Waiting for +£2,000 from cancelled flight to Bahrain in Oct for a family of 4.
Shameful state of an airline at the moment

  • Zark says:

Rob, you were probably lucky that BA did not dispute cancellation on the grounds of some spurious technical problem or downgrade as when rebooked this was not then a downgrade. BA’s compensation prevention process often starts by obfuscation by staff and crew, repeatedly ignoring submitted claims and then further obfuscation once forced to respond, all designed to try to get you to give up either because you come to believe BA’s tricks or because of the time it takes. As a last gasp, they may even actually suggest you take the matter up with CEDR in the hope that the associated hassle will lead you to abandonment.
It takes commitment to get legal compensation and BA uses this.
All this is based on my experiences.

  • Devon Diamond says:

September 11th – flight delayed, meaning I missed the last Heathrow express I could take to make my onward train to the SW and had to overnight near Heathrow at a premier inn, then get the train back that morning.

    September 12th – claimed
September 18th – BA response saying we will reimburse you
September 22nd – reimbursed in full
    Only a blue member

  • Howard says:

My compensation for delay Gran Canaria – LGW of 2 days was settled in 3 weeks which was surprisingly impressive. Taxi from LHR – LGW was declined which was disappointing. There appeared to be no prioritisation of Club or status passengers or those with young kids. Random passengers getting rebooked for flights that afternoon and some getting no info for 48 hours despite being Club Europe, or having status.

  • Josh B says:

On the lounge thing, I cannot speak to EDI but at LHR the Plaza offering is way worse than the (mediocre) Aspire alternative.

    • ianM says:

Agree, the Plaza at T5 used to be pretty good with some great food, but has gone downhill badly

  • supergraeme says:

Had a c13 hour overnight delay from Malaga to LHR at the start of September.

Taxis, hotel (self-booked due to no ground help), vending machine drinks and EU261 comp was paid in a week. They declined the taxi fare from LHR to home (there was a strike on that wouldn’t have affected us if they’d got us home on time, so I thought it was valid) but did add a much lower sum for no reason. I was impressed.

  • tw33ty says:

I had two claim a couple of months back, one Lufthansa and the other Brussels airlines, both paid out around 14 days after putting the claim in.

I Even done a claim via deutsch Bahn and that paid out in about a week.

15 weeks for BA seems terrible.
