American Express and the Hyatt hotel group have launched a new bonus promotion. That’s the good news. The bad news is that it is nowhere near as generous as the ‘spend £250 and get £100’ back offers we saw in 2022 and 2023.

We’ve only seen this new offer on British Airways American Express cards although that’s not to say that it isn’t on any others.

You will receive 3,000 bonus Avios when you spend £300 in a participating Hyatt hotel in Europe by 15th March.

The hotel list is here.

As usual, there are gaps in countries where Amex isn’t active – no Ireland, no Portugal etc. The biggest chunk of properties is in Germany following Hyatt’s absorption of the Lindner chain.

3,000 Avios isn’t huge attractive, especially as you will be paying a 2.99% FX fee for using your British Airways American Express outside the UK.

If this means the end of generous hotel cashback deals via American Express then it will undermine the value proposition of the cards – I’ve earned well over £500 from these offers this year.
