Can I earn Avios and British Airways tier points if I fly with Qatar Airways?

In this article we’ll look at how you can earn Avios and British Airways tier points by flying with Qatar Airways.

It is possible to earn Avios and British Airways Executive Club tier points on Qatar Airways.  Of course, Qatar Airways has Privilege Club, its own frequent flyer program, which also uses the Avios reward currency but there is no good reason for crediting your Qatar Airways flight to Privilege Club if you have an active British Airways account.

When you book or manage your flights with Qatar Airways, you will be able to add your British Airways Executive Club number. Upon completion of your flights you will automatically be credited the correct Avios.

How many Avios do you earn when flying on Qatar Airways?

Here is the full chart of earning rates, sourced from the partner page of the British Airways website.

• Economy lowest – 25% of miles flown
• Economy low – 50% of miles flown
• Economy flexible – 100% of miles flown
• Business lowest – 75% of miles flown
• Business flexible – 125% of miles flown
• First – 150% of miles flown

You will NOT receive a status bonus if you have Bronze, Silver or Gold status in British Airways Executive Club.

This can be exceptionally good value.  A business class flight to Asia from the UK on Qatar Airways earns 560 tier points in British Airways Executive Club (four legs of 140 tier points each) which is almost enough for British Airways Silver status.  This is, to put it mildly, an excellent return from just one trip.

How to earn Avios from UK credit cards (December 2024)

As a reminder, there are various ways of earning Avios points from UK credit cards.  Many cards also have generous sign-up bonuses!
