Get 20% cashback at 1,000+ restaurants for three months with Amex Preferred Rewards Gold

American Express has decided to up the ante with its Amex Dining programme, which tends to go under the radar because it is very difficult to remember which restaurants are taking part.

From today until 19th May 2024, you will receive 20% cashback at the 1,000+ participating UK restaurants when you pay with an American Express Preferred Rewards Gold card.

Click here for more details on the amexdining.com website.

Amex Dining offer

The cashback remains at 10% – which is not to be sniffed at either – for Platinum, Amex Cashback and selected Business cardholders.

There is no cap of any sort on the cashback. You can visit as many restaurants as you want – and earn multiple times at the SAME restaurants if you wish – and there is no limit to the cashback you can receive.

It is a fairly mainstream list of restaurants. The best known chains which are taking part are GBK, Carluccio’s, Honest Burgers, Gordon Ramsay, Sticks’N’Sushi, Soho Coffee Co., Hawksmoor and Gaucho.

However, there are also a lot of independent restaurants taking part. A full list can be found here.

You must register for this offer before dining. It should show from this morning in the ‘Offers’ tab of your American Express Preferred Rewards Gold card, either in the app or online. Platinum, Amex Cashback and some Business cardholders will also see it, albeit you will only receive 10%.

Not an Amex Gold cardholder?

If you are not an Amex Gold cardholder, the current sign-up offer is 20,000 Membership Rewards (20,000 Avios) points when you spend £3,000 in 90 days. However, you will not qualify if you have – or had in the last 24 months – a British Airways American Express card amongst others.

The card is free for your first year.

As well as benefiting from this deal, you will also receive four free airport lounge passes and £120 of Deliveroo credit.

Our detailed explanation of ‘what Amex card bonuses can I still get, given what I’ve already had?’ is here.

You can apply here.

The representative APR is 88.8% variable, including the annual fee.  The representative APR on purchases, and in the first year which has no fee, is 31.0% variable.

I thought it was an error but good that’s it’s available. Likely won’t use it because I don’t fancy much of the stuff on the list.

  • Alison G says:

I booked Carluccios in Stratford on Avon. It was in the directory but when it was time to pay I was told they don’t accept AMEX!!! Not many places to use the offer when you live in the countryside.

    • Rob says:

Could have been a franchise. I had Amex refused at the Pret opposite Cambridge railway station for the same reason.

    • Ruralite says:

The offer always seems to reappear on my Platinum card and is back again today although I can’t remember the last time I used it, partly because I also live in the countryside and partly because I seldom eat in the places that are usually included in the offer. I do currently have about 30 offers on my card, 3 or 4 I will most likely use but others I never even save – Celebrity Cruises being one but they keep trying to persuade me! I do get at least my membership fee back and value the travel benefits so, currently anyway, it works for me.

    • TGLoyalty says:

      Did you try the card?

Sometimes it’s best to tap and see what happens.

  • mark2 says:

So, it’s Slim Chickens at Tesco then.

  • strickers says:

Nearest participating location is 30 miles away!

    • Andrew says:

Did you try the map as well as the list? When I searched the list the nearest was 5 miles away. However, when I looked at the map the nearest was actually my local pub all of a 100m stumble away 😁 Clearly the directory IT implementation is up to the usual standards 🙄

      • Stacey says:

        Hi Andrew,
Thanks for the feedback. We will look to remedy this issue.

  • The Savage Squirrel says:

Entertaining selection. There’s some fairly high end offerings in London and I don;t think you could get much more old-school than somewhere like Wiltons. OTOH the nearest one to me is …….. a Krispy Kreme donut shop 😀 😀

  • BS says:

How does it work with the Platinum card ? Do I need to wait for it to come up on the offers page or is it automatic?

  • JC says:

Honestly – the Platinum card offering at the new price gets worse and worse
