Wide-open business class Avios availability (9+ seats per day) to the Maldives in November

If you wanted to fly to the Maldives later this year, today is your lucky day.

A huge amount of business class Avios availability has appeared from the start of the winter timetable – in the last week of October – until the start of the school holidays in December.

(If you’ve got school-age children you can stop reading now, unfortunately.)

British Airways Avios Maldives

Here is, courtesy of SeatSpy, availability for 2 x business class to the Maldives in late October, November and early December.

Virtually all dates are actually showing 9+ seats available in business class.

Premium Economy is also wide open with 9+ seats on most dates.

I’ve double-checked the availability with ba.com and it is accurate as of noon on Thursday.

Outbound flights with Avios seats are on the left, inbound on the right.

Avios availability to the Maldives

Headline Avios pricing in Business Class is 180,000 Avios + £450 return on off-peak dates and 200,000 Avios + £450 return on peak dates.

It is a Boeing 777 route from Heathrow so you will get the new Club Suite.

Other cash and Avios combinations are available, if you are willing to pay more cash, although the headline rate is the best value if you have a British Airways American Express 2-4-1 voucher to use.

Anyone got issues using the Barclay’s upgrade vouchers. It won’t let me select 2. Also if you unselect the voucher you’ve selected, it won’t let you select any more.

    • SamG says:

I’ve always had to call to use x2 but I saw someone mention it worked on their iPhone

    • John G says:

I can get as far as the payment stage selecting 2 Barclays vouchers for 3 passengers flying one way but as I don’t actually want to book anything today I can’t tell you if it will work fully. Is this further than you can get?

      • NorthernLass says:

If you don’t book today, the seats may all be gone! You can cancel for free within 24 hours.

        • John G says:

Maldives isn’t my kind of place. Was looking at another destination and seats not on sale yet for my dates.

      • SamG says:

Further than I ever got, I couldn’t ever select 2 vouchers!

  • Jasdev says:

Rob/Rhys, provided that I have both the Avios and the cash required for such a booking, can I book this for someone else (as a gift)?

    • babyg says:

@Jasdev – ive not had a problem doing this, but they need to be in your family / friends list OR household account in my experience…..

      • Rob says:

No they don’t. Only if you have a Household Account does the flyer need to be in the HHA / F&F list.

If your account is standalone you can book for anyone.

  • The Savage Squirrel says:

Together with the recent Qatar article on availability; both to strong leisure destinations, I’m wondering: are these signs that the leisure market has finally “caught up” post Covid and is softening? Or am I reading too much into a couple of random small-scale availability dumps?

    • Skysurf Steve says:

I think you’re right. One of my clients is a leisure insurance business and their trade has dropped off a lot this year.

    • Marcin says:

Interesting take. possibly cash tickets not selling as well as previously

    • NorthernLass says:

Also people may have come to their senses about Maldives pricing – it has gone from stratospheric to somewhere in hyperspace in the past few years!

      • Sam says:

I actually priced this up for the Conrad Rangali last year.
Cashing in 480,000 HH points for 5 nights (5-for-4).
Was getting quoted £4,420 just for the all inclusive board (which still had some select cocktail exclusions!)

Then add the £1,100 return seaplane transfers. And flights on top.

        Absolute crazy money.

    • will says:

I keep an eye on F1 ticket resale and it seems to have also weakened significantly compared to recent years.
It’s taking people a while to realise but interest rates assigning a significant value to cash does change behaviors.

      • Rob says:

Wimbledon is massively up this year. Last offer I saw for a pair of Centre Court debentures was £66,000 for the two weeks which is about 15% up.

        • Boaby says:

When I read debentures it makes me think of dentures which is funny as probably most holding them have those…

          • Richie says:

…er no they don’t. They’re much more likely to have had some Straumanns fitted.

    • SamG says:

I had a conversation about the UK self catering market this week and there was some alarm at a couple of the big “cottage ” providers launching unusual discounts for summer at the moment which suggests they’re behind where they expect to be.

Though my view is after the rain of the recent months perhaps everyone is just leaning into foreign holidays instead and can only afford to do one – the EU fares I see for this summer are still very high!!

BA fly a very high biz config bird on this route over winter and I imagine the 6 weeks leading up to Xmas are a challenge to fill so I’m not surprised at this “dump” , seems smart to me

      • will says:

Yes I did this flight at Easter in club world and was astounded at how far back business went. First time in club suites and was really impressed with them.

  • kev says:

Ive just looked at doing a dummy booking for the dates in nov and december in first and its not showing on he BA website? IS there first on these flights?

    • Rob says:

Didn’t double check that bit, but I will now – no F on many of these services.

      • kev says:

Ah ok, I did wonder if its a glitch and these are only three class flights.

    • Scandinavian Traveler says:

Seatspy has become incredibly unreliable to the point that it is getting useless. Much of the availability is never there, but you see availability on other dates. I will be cancelling my subscription!

      • Rob says:

        This data is fully accurate.

        • Simon says:

SeatSpy has NOT been accurate for BA for months now – and responses from the owners on the issue have been vague at best.

        • Scandinavian traveler says:

It was not – I checked on SeatSpy before making my comment last night, and the F flights ex LHR in November and December were not available despite SeatSpy showing them and there was no availability in club (even with a 2-4-1) on several days for the return either.

          • Rob says:

The F was an error, agreed. I suspect the missing days were a lag between HfP readers booking and SeatSpy refreshing its feed.

        • Sarah says:

The seatspy data really isn’t accurate. It’s been showing 2 return flights in J all day today on 2nd Dec, but the availability isn’t there on ba.com. I often have issues with seatspy showing phantom availability, which is quite frustrating

  • iEimis says:

Can a person with 2x 2-4-1 companion vouchers use them to fly 4 adults (including themselves) or is that not possible because for each voucher one adult has to be the person owning the voucher?

    • NorthernLass says:

It’s fine as long as both vouchers are in the same account.

  • Matt says:

Thanks for flagging – I upgraded a return leg which was sold out in business when I originally booked.

Is it normal for BA to charge a change fee for upgrades? I would have thought the additional taxes and fees would be sufficient but they insisted on charging an extra £35/person. I thought they usually only charge this if you change the date/time of travel.

    • Rob says:

Everyone done via the phone has a £35 fee unless the website is down.

      • Froggee says:

Is it not £15 for phone bookings?

I think they charge the change fee for pretty much any change more than 24 hours after booking.

        • AspirationalFlyer says:

I was charged £35 per person to book the return leg. No £15 phone fee in addition as it’s not something you can do on the website.

  • Michael C says:

Half-term actually ends on 4 Nov this year, so doable!

  • BJ says:

Perfect time for @Rhys to find the most lucrative meeting-planner account and start organising the HfP Xmas Party.
