In a slightly unexpected new route announcement, British Airways is bringing back flights to Nuremberg. Nuremberg is Bavaria’s second largest city after Munich.

Pre-covid this had operated for a couple of years as a winter-only route from Gatwick, aimed at visitors to the Christmas markets, but was then dropped. In 2022 British Airways launched it as a year-round route but it didn’t last long.

It’s now back for a limited Christmas market period.

Flights start on 28th November with four flights per week on Thursday, Friday, Sunday and Monday. The final flight will be 5th January 2025.

It’s a 5pm-ish departure from Heathrow with a 9pm-ish flight back. The exception is Monday when its a 2pm departure from London.

Flights will depart from Terminal 5, which is a change from when it was a year-round route and operated from Terminal 3.

Flights are already bookable, for cash or Avios, at ba.com.

Not being able to use OLCI at NUE meant dealing with a very officious airport check-in attendant who had decided that all hand baggage had to be checked-in. This was at a time it was taking BA up to 3 hours to deliver baggage to the carousel at Heathrow.

Otherwise, we really enjoyed our half-term short break to Nuremberg. Easy transfer from the airport. We stayed at the NH Collection and used the Amex card credit . My family came home with much more knowledge of the city’s importance in German history than when we arrived.
