MIRACLE! The British Airways On Business website is back after 16 months

Links on Head for Points may support the site by paying a commission.  See here for all partner links.

Well, miracles can happen. Someone tell Rishi he may still have a chance!

Just 16 months after the website was (allegedly) hacked, British Airways On Business is back online.

You can log in to your account here.

British Airways On Business website is active again

There are two important things you need to know:

  • you cannot log-in until you do ‘Forgot your password?’ and do a password reset
  • you cannot access the website without using an authenticator app on your mobile phone

If you don’t know what an authenticator app is, it works in a similar way to many mobile banking apps which generate a transaction code. British Airways is supporting Google Authenticator, Microsoft Authenticator and an independent one.

After downloading your choice of authenticator app, you use the camera on your phone (if using a desktop) to scan a QR code that ba.com shows on screen. The authenticator app will then generate a random number which you type into the website.

This seems to be a one-off requirement, but we will see.

No mobile phone? The comments below suggest that desktop authenticators are also available.

The website is fully back for earn and burn

The good news is that the website is back to the, admittedly limited, functionality it had before it went down in February 2023.

To be honest, I can’t tell if my statement is correct or not. Paid flights to Iceland and Sweden from earlier this year show. A couple of flights booked for me by third parties are not there but it is possible that the booker in those cases could override the OB number I put in with their own.

It seems that an On Business redemption I cancelled last year has not been recredited, but I need to look into this more closely.

Online booking for reward flights appears to be working OK.

What is very weird is a tab called ‘Statements archive’. This shows all of my transactions from 2012 to 2014, but nothing from 2015 onwards!

Points expiry is set at 31st December 2024

On Business points expire after three years, with no way of extending them. Expiry was suspended during the time that the website was down but you will see that you have a lot of points expiring on 31st December 2024.

It remains to be seen if British Airways will give a further extension here. Given that it is now late June, giving people just six months to redeem seems tight. Let’s see.

Anyway …. reset your password, download an authenticator app, log in and have a look around.

  • David says:

Does anyone know how to add an OnBusiness number to an existing BA booking? Used to be available in the old Manage My Booking, but it seems to have disappeared in the “new and improved” MMB…

    • Joe says:

On “Your Upcoming Bookings” click “Manage Booking” scroll down select “Manage my Booking” again, then choose “Add On Business or Business Extra Number.”

      • D says:

Thanks. I just realised I had a BA Holiday booking, so that’s probably why the option didn’t show up.

  • Daniel says:

I was also able to do the rest and log in but discovered quite a few flights over the last 12+ months have not been credited. However the online form for claiming missing points only goes back 4 months which is only a fraction of the period the site has been down. Hopefully they will find a way for people to claim the missing points from earlier periods.

  • Alan says:

Well Gmail clearly doesn’t trust them either and flagged their email as potential phishing! 😂

The TOTP 2FA code should be requested if signing in from a new browser. I highly recommend Bitwarden – excellent open source password manager that also does 2FA codes.

  • Chevivi says:

I asked many times my new password and I did not NEVER receive the recovery link in my email address. I am waiting hours…..

    • Andrew. says:

I’ve got a mental image of the developers rebooting the system as sun rose on a stone circle at yesterday’s summer solstice.

  • Nick says:

Not working for me – asked for password reset three times and still waiting!!

  • David says:

Same here, reset password doesn’t work, tried calling but there’s an automated message saying they’re too busy, call back later 😅

  • Skywalker says:

I too have requested my password, to no avail.

I won’t bother calling BA OB in the next few weeks as I suspect that they aren’t able to have the internet connection and telephone lines working at the same time.

  • Velo says:

I managed to reset my password, login and authenticate.
However, I tried to update the information in the site – i.e. new travel agent, the site was flagging that mandatory fields had not been completed, all had been completed.
Same with trying to update my information. Same with trying to update the user information. I logged out and then could not get back in again, the site is asking for OTP, but link to MS Authenticator has failed and I can’t get a code – so now I can’t log in. Very frustrating.
