400 Small Luxury Hotels now bookable with Hilton points – deals to be had

Back in February, Hilton announced a partnership with Small Luxury Hotels of the World.

This was to replace the SLH partnership with World of Hyatt, which had been doomed ever since Hyatt announced the acquisition of Mr & Mrs Smith.

Hilton had been very cautious about the timeframe for rolling out SLH on hilton.com but – well ahead of schedule – 400 hotels went live for booking this week. There are some good deals to be had.

Hilton Honors unveils elite benefits at Small Luxury Hotel properties

Of the 560 hotels in Small Luxury Hotels, 400 have agreed to join the Hilton partnership. This is a good sign-up rate in my view, given that the hotels have to give benefits (outlined below) to elite members of Hilton Honors.

It’s fair to say that these hotels are far more aspirational as a points redemption than 95% of Hilton’s own hotels.

What makes the SLH partnership even more interesting is that redemptions follow standard Hilton Honors rules:

  • no hotel will cost more than 150,000 points per night
  • ‘5-4-4’ will be available if you are Silver Elite or above

It turns out that there are some excellent redemption deals to be had. Even hotels which do not offer ‘outsized value’ will still get you a redemption value in line with our expected Hilton Honors value of 0.33p per point. Many are well above this.

Good value Small Luxury Hotels redemptions

I gave one example of a good value SLH deal in my article yesterday on how to get outsized value from hotel redemptions.

This 240 sq m overwater bungalow at Milaidhoo Maldives (website here) is $2,500 for cash. Redemptions are capped at 130,000 points per night, getting you 1.5p per Hilton Honors point:

Best hotel loyalty scheme

It’s actually an even better deal than it looks because Hilton does ‘5 nights for the points of 4’ on redemptions if you have Silver status or above. It is highly likely you’d want to stay at least five nights here.

Here is another example at Canaves Epitome in Santorini (website here). This rather snazzy suite with its own private plunge pool would cost you €1,235 later this month, or 140,000 points.

Canaves Epitome SLH HIlton points

You’re getting 0.75p per Hilton point, which increases to 0.93p if you booked for five nights and got one night for free.

There is no point reinventing the wheel, so take a look at this article from US site Frequent Miler.

It includes fantastic properties in Mallorca (Cap Rocat), Venice (Ca Sagredo) and Lugano (THE VIEW) amongst others.

What are Hilton Honors elite benefits at SLH hotels?

Here is a reminder of the elite benefits for Hilton Honors members who book an SLH property via the Hilton website for cash or points.

These are surprisingly comprehensive, given that World of Hyatt struggled to get SLH properties to offer much during the years they held the partnership. This is what you get:

  • Member (no status): member discount, complimentary standard Wi-Fi, complimentary late checkout, bottled water, no resort fees on reward stays
  • Silver: 20% elite tier bonus, 5th standard reward night free, all “Member” benefits
  • Gold: 80% elite tier bonus, complimentary breakfast for two, space-available upgrades, 5th standard reward night free, all “Member” benefits
  • Diamond: 100% elite tier bonus, complimentary breakfast for two, space-available upgrades, 5th standard reward night free, all “Member” benefits

There are various ways of earning Hilton Honors points from UK credit and debit cards.  Many cards also have generous sign-up bonuses.

There are two dedicated Hilton Honors debit cards. These are especially attractive when spending abroad due to the 0% or 0.5% FX fee, depending on card.

Is the 5 4 4 deal available on all rooms or only on the most basic?

    • Rob says:

Only on ‘standard’ redemptions, whatever room category those book into – this is usually a standard room but seems to vary a bit with SLH.

  • Damien says:

switched a 10 night stay in Conrad over to the Milaidhoo. Love the Conrad, but may as well try these out. Though I’m wondering if I should have tried a 5+5 in 2 of the hotels. Amilla is just 4k away. Wonder if I could get a boat transfer.

    • Damien says:

May as well try them now in case they go up later. Was able to get 12 nights in 6S Laamu back when it switched to IHG for 100k pn. Lol… no chance of seeing that again on points.

      • Phil Foxtrot says:

I did the same. Think it was 9 nights back in 2022 for 100k pts per night. Best value holiday I’ve ever had. The Seychelles 6S is now 400k ppn.

      • Guernsey Globetrotter says:

@Damien your comment is very triggering 😬 We’ve done SS Laamu twice on points (a week in 22 and another in 23). Thanks to Creation my effective cost in 22 was £267 per night. In 23 it rose to £291! What an amazing place and such a shame they ‘fixed’ the rates…

Why is this memory triggering you ask? Well Mrs GT has decided that SS Laamu is her ‘happy place’ and now compares every holiday to that coral atoll idyll ! We have 10 nights at the Conrad booked for next March too and now I’m wondering if I should take a leaf out of your book and consider switching. Baros looks pretty awesome from a house reef perspective too. I can feel another thread coming on 😂

        • Damien says:

I’ll have to check out the Vids on that Baros then. If there’s one thing I love, it’s the snorkelling. Going to Miyakojima in October…. hoping for crystal clear waters.

          • Guernsey Globetrotter says:

Having looked more at the Milaidhoo reef online I’d say it looks pretty amazing – may see you there @Damien 😎

    Istanbul
I’ve been looking for a five night stay, for my dates

    Vakko Hotel, Premiere Suite:
    5 nights cash £ 3,400
    5 nights points 420,000

£ 0.0057 a point, which is above Hilton average.

    Tomtom standard suite:

    5 nights cash £ 1,350
    5 nights points 240,000

Again, shade over half a pence a point. If you take out the 5-4-4 element it’s less exciting. Tomtom is the same as the Conrad for my dates.

  • Guernsey Globetrotter says:

A reminder to those who may be considering buying Hilton points in the current 100% bonus sale to take advantage of these redemptions – the points are cheaper in USD (0.5 cents a piece) versus the GBP rate you get at points.com (0.4126p each). This is a terrible exchange rate of 1.21 at a time when you should be looking for around 1.29 (or 0.386p per point).

You can get points.com to give you the dollar rate if the address associated with your Hilton account is in the US. I just switched the country and put in a zip code of 12345 (Schenectady, New York apparently). If you’re able to pay charge free in dollars (I use my Amex ICC and also earn a point a $) and then settle via a service like Wise / Revolut you’ll be quids in (well 6% better off) 😎

  • RH says:

I was looking to book the Maldives. Looked ok last night, now all dates I search are his year and next year now say ‘May be available’ for all the SLH options, all usual Hilton islands are ok. Looks like they may have cottoned on to the high value redemptions or may be just a glitch.

    • Rob says:

Click through and you will see it is available, in most cases.

App also less buggy than website.
