Rare 10% BA cashback offer launched with American Express – register quickly

Links on Head for Points may support the site by paying a commission.  See here for all partner links.

British Airways and American Express appear to have launched a decent cashback offer this morning.

You will get 10% back on all transactions at ba.com, and this should (not guaranteed) include taxes and charges paid on Avios bookings.

However, only 35,000 cards can be registered and it appears to only be showing to a very controlled group. My wife and I do not see it across any of our cards.

This is what you are looking for in the ‘Offers’ section of one or more of your American Express cards:

British Airways and American Express cashback

There isn’t much restrictive small print:

  • bookings must be made at ba.com (no call centre payments)
  • there is no minimum spend
  • you are capped at £100 cashback in total
  • cumulative spend is OK
  • flights must depart the UK
  • you must spend by 11th September

IMPORTANT: Because cumulative spending is OK, you don’t need to register multiple American Express cards (assuming you have it on multiple cards) unless you intend to spend over £1,000 with British Airways by 11th September. If your BA spend is almost certain to be under £1,000 in the next six weeks, just register one card and leave open more of the 35,000 slots for other readers.

I don’t have any emails yet from readers who have this on a British Airways American Express card. The two examples I’ve seen so far – although its only 8am – were on Preferred Rewards Gold and American Express Cashback.

    On ARCC

  • Will says:

Looks like it’s on all family cards for cardholder (not supp) that have never booked a BA flight

  • David says:

    On my Platinum card.

  • Lynda says:

Worked on my Amazon business prime card- but of course it’s 10percent but no Avios!

  • Phil G says:

This still wouldn’t make me book with them over the cheapest decent airline seat. Loyalty only goes one way.

  • Peter Taysum says:

    BAPP not targeted.

I HAVE been targeted by BA CRM via email with a 15% discount code flying to North America to book by 21st August in Business.

Tried a dummy run to HNL in May/June 2025 and the code didn’t work “outside dates”. No T&Cs on email (sent yesterday).

Hey here’s a great offer, but we won’t give you the details!

Random aside. Would like to join “On Business” but all of my work is VAT exempt (medical and education) so I don’t have a VAT number… Anyone had similar experience; know can go via AmEx but new business sending have two years accounts at Companies House yet!

    • Rob says:

The BA Business credit card will relaunch soon. If you get this an OB account is opened for you irrespective of your VAT status. Don’t see why Amex would want accounts since you can say you’re a sole trader and provide nothing.

      • Peter Taysum says:

        Thanks Rob

Think that’s the way to go! I’ll keep a look out for your new referral code!

    • Another Chris says:

Strange, my email included the offer T&C which include:

A qualifying flight is defined as a new booking for round-trip flights from the UK to the USA or Canada made between 00:00 BST 31 July 2024 and 23:59 BST 21 August 2024, for travel between 1 August 2024 and 31 March 2025 (inclusive), where the total flight spend is more than £300 per person. New booking must originate from the UK, with travel in Club World (business class) on British Airways marketed and operated flights only (“Qualifying Flight”)

Qualifying Flights with connecting British Airways operated flights from UK domestic airports are included in the offer. UK domestic business class connections will be in our Club Europe cabin. The Code entitles you to 15% off the total price of your flight only booking including taxes, fees and carrier charges in GBP per person.

  • Chris says:

I am wondering if all the 35,000 have already been taken as nothing on either of my to BA premium cards.
AND, if so, how many have registered with no intention of ever making a booking during the period it is valid.
When are AMEX going to allow de-regestering, and maybe, just maybe, those who really want to make a booking can still have a chance of registering.

    • T says:

One surely has to Imagine that (non intended bookers) is actually figured into the number available?

    • Another Chris says:

They haven’t all been taken yet. I only registered one of my cards but it’s still available to register on the other 3.

    • Peter K says:

If you read the articles and comments you’ll see it’s not in BA cards, only on others.

  • ianM says:

Not on any of 5 cards in family, maybe it’s only gone out to 35000 !

    • TGLoyalty says:

Out of 5 main cards in my household it’s only on a Nectar card.
