Two decent ‘buy points’ bonuses are ending soon:

Last chance to get a 50% bonus when you buy Avios

Qatar Airways (yes Qatar Airways, not British Airways) has been running a ‘buy Avios’ bonus promotion this week. The link to buy is here.

Until tomorrow, 8th September, you will receive up to a 50% bonus when you buy Avios.

You can buy on this page of the Qatar Airways Privilege Club website.

The Avios can only be credited to a Qatar Airways Privilege Club account. You can move them into a British Airways Executive Club account by linking your BA and Qatar Airways accounts via the process here.

There is no minimum purchase, although your bonus depends on how many Avios you buy.  For me, the 50% bonus kicks in with a 36,000 Avios transaction. Smaller transactions, from 5,000 Avios, attract a 20% or 30% bonus.

You can only buy if there has previously been ‘activity’ on your Qatar Airways Privilege Club account. Transferring in 1,000 Avios from British Airways would count, even if the Avios were immediately transferred back.

What does it cost?

At the top end, you will pay 1.16p per Avios under this offer.

The most you can buy is 250,000 Avios with a 125,000 bonus, for a total of 375,000 Avios for £4,375.

Based on my spreadsheet of the last 9 million Avios I redeemed, I got 1.23p of value – and this is based on very conservative valuations for the flights I booked. If you have a plan to use the Avios, because you should never buy speculatively, then this is not a bad opportunity.

You can check pricing on this page of the Qatar Airways Privilege Club website.

Last chance to get a 100% bonus buying IHG points

Until tonight (Saturday), IHG One Rewards is offering a 100% bonus for buying points.

For me, the maximum number of points I can buy is increased to 500,000 (ie 250,000 plus the 250,000 bonus).  The minimum purchase to trigger the bonus is 5,000 points on my account but this could vary.

The page to buy points is here.

With a 100% bonus, you would be able to buy up to 500,000 IHG One Rewards points for (at current exchange rates for $2,500) £1,900.

I usually value IHG One Rewards points at 0.4p.  You are paying 0.38p here so it is not necessarily a slam dunk unless you are just topping up your account.

The skill is to use them at hotels where you can get substantially more than 0.4p per point of value, although this got a little harder since IHG moved towards revenue-based redemption pricing. You can still get deals though if you are strategic.

You can buy points via this link. The other ends tonight (Saturday).
