British Airways adds Stansted flights and reprieves Bahrain

British Airways has added a new summer route to its nascent Stansted operation.

Flights from London Stansted to Bergerac will launch on 28th June and end on 30th August.

The flight will be operated by BA Cityflyer, the subsidiary which operates Embraer 190 services from London City Airport.

As usual with these services, it is being operated to keep the Cityflyer fleet earning money whilst London City Airport is closed for 24 hours over the weekend.

There will be one flight per week on a Saturday. The timings are:

  • The outbound leaves Stansted at 13.30 and lands in Bergerac at 16.05
  • The return leaves Bergerac at 16.45 and lands in Stansted at 17.20

Premium and elite status passengers at London Stansted will have the pleasure of using the Escape lounge which we reviewed here.

Flights are bookable now for cash or Avios at ba.com.

British Airways give Bahrain a reprieve

In a surprise u-turn, British Airways will not be cancelling flights to Bahrain after all.

The route, along with Kuwait, was due to be discontinued from the end of March due to engine issues with BA’s Boeing 787 fleet which have reduced the number of aircraft available.

After substantial pushback, possibly driven by the fact that BA and its predecessor airlines have been flying to Bahrain for almost 100 years, the airline has reinstated three flights per week for the summer season.

It is hoping to return to a daily service for the winter season, from the end of October.

Looking at Disney on ice for this. We are about to have a new born to go with our 3 year old. Are restrictions in the lounge the same as general admission? In that under 2s don’t need a ticket and can be slung/on a lap?
I’ve bought 1 set but still not received the email with details to try and confirm before getting another set.

  • David says:

I always thought Bergerac airport was in Jersey 😉

    • Richie says:

BTW BACF Jersey charter flights are usually for a tour operator.

    • NorthernLass says:

I got the joke, lol. You have to be a certain demographic … !

      • RussellH says:

And certain age too, I suspect.
My aunt, who died around 15 years ago in her mid 90s, was a huge fan, never shy of making it absolutely clear to anyone just how much she fancied him.

  • NorthernLass says:

If BA wants to compete with LCC’s at STN, why not MAN?

    • Nick says:

Bergerac is a weird one, it’s not a typical LCC route but largely for rich Londoners with second homes who will pay more than average for a LCC. It’s the same people who used to go to SOU for the flybe flights before they went bust.

In general though, and as the answer always is, it’s much more profitable to operate from the south east than MAN. The competing LCC fares are (on average) higher, particularly at the last minute when as an airline you need to be charging more, and there just aren’t enough people in MAN willing to pay. CE sold well there at discount I class rates, but as soon as you move up the fare ladder it just stops selling. Add to this that costs are higher (MAN is an extra 45 min flying time plus all your crew are based in the south-east), and it’s easy to see why it’s not a viable proposition.

      • Mikeact says:

But the rich in MAN, all go to the Caribbean.

        • NorthernLass says:

          You forgot about Marbs, sweetie!

          • NorthernLass says:

But in all seriousness, demand for AGP never diminishes. I was talking to a very middle class family in the Escape lounge in August who were flying to Seville and driving to the Costa due to AGP fares being so outrageous.

      • Willmo says:

Demographics of Bergerac must be similar to Ibiza during the winter, where with the seasonal absence of nightclubs means that the only UK direct flights that can be sustained are from BA cityflyer.

    • George says:

They probably don’t want to compete with LCCs at MAN as much as they do at STN is the obvious answer

  • Richie says:

BACF have 16 weekly slots at Stansted to use for summer 25. The usage of 12 is already in the public domain, so that leaves 4 not yet allocated and yet to be announced.
