SAS to launch flights to Seoul

Links on Head for Points may support the site by paying a commission.  See here for all partner links.

SAS has become more interesting to Head for Points readers since its recent switch from Star Alliance to SkyTeam. This is because SkyTeam membership means that you can redeem Virgin Points for its flights.

To give you a better feel for what SAS has to offer, Rhys will be heading over to Los Angeles in a couple of weeks to try out its A330 business class seat and service.

For anyone fed up with waiting for Virgin Atlantic to start its long-promised route to Seoul – which WILL happen, because it is a requirement of the Korean Air / Asiana merger which is getting close to legal completion – SAS now offers an alternative.

SAS launches flights to Seoul

SAS will launch flights from Copenhagen to Seoul on 12th September 2025. This will be the first-ever direct service between Scandinavia and Korea.

The route will operate four times weekly during the summer season and three times weekly in winter. It will use an A350 aircraft.

Including Seattle, which launches in May 2025, SAS will offer 14 intercontinental routes from Copenhagen. We will look at the route network in more detail as part of our upcoming SAS review series.

  • Swiss Jim says:

It’s stretching it somewhat to call Marks Tey Colchester. Be warned.!

    • Sam says:

Agreed, very Ryanair-esque in its naming! Shame, needed a good hotel in Colchester for family reasons, guess I’m still waiting for one.

  • Stuart says:

Saw “Delta Colchester opens” in the headline so maybe it was a non-stop ATL-SEN service as not enough LHR slots 😁

  • Andy says:

There is nothing in Marks Tey. It sits right on the A12 and Colchester is a 12 minute drive but as the traffic is horrendous all the time more like 20 mins. Don’t bother you’ll be disappointed unless you like Norman castles

    • Cicero says:

      It’s a Roman castle!

    • Gordon says:

Not sure when you visited? But now the A12 StanwayMarks Tey resurfacing works have finally been completed, not before time, the traffic flow is better.

  • Tariq says:

ISTR HSBC Premier credit card offers the same benefits at Bicester as AX Platinum?

  • BB says:

Interesting. Good to keep tabs on who and where the A330s and A340s are flying. For a flight in economy, I’d go out of my way to choose them over any others due to the comfortable 2-4-2 layout. So much more civilised.

  • Jonathan says:

It’s half surprising that VS is going to be starting its long promised Seoul route, even though no date has been announced, they shut down the Shanghai route mainly due to the long route it was forced to use due to Russian airspace, and assuming that when Seoul route starts that’ll still be there…

So it’s hard to know how economical the route will be

They could resume the Shanghai route, with it being a stopover on route to Seoul

    • Mark says:

They have to for the Korean/Asiana merger to go ahead. No doubt Korean will be paying a substantial subsidy.

      • JDB says:

Virgin is the “Proposed Remedy Taker” but isn’t actually obliged to fly the route for the merger to proceed, but if Virgin elected not to operate the service, the slots (and other measures to facilitate operation of the route) have to be offered (as part of the undertakings given by Korean to gain UK approval) to another carrier approved by the CMA on the same basis. Korean has given legally binding undertakings but Virgin has not.

    • John says:

Not sure people will want so-called “direct” flights to Seoul that take 17-19 hours unless it’s competition for KE/OZ in name only

      • Novice says:

        Especially in Virgins coffin seat.

      • Jon says:

The direct flights on Asiana (and not flying over Russian airspace) are long , but not that long! About 12h30 on the way to Seoul and 14h on the way back.

    • Bob says:

so EU have now approved so just the US remaining which should be a formality apparently

  • Matarredonda says:

They also own the Holiday Inn Express on the opposite side of the city on the A12.
Marks Tey was rather run down last time I stayed but since then they did a year as a Afghanistan refugee hotel and rumour has it they netted well over £1m.

    • Rob says:

Hopefully nearer £10m because £1m doesn’t get you very far these days in a labour intensive business.

  • Jeff says:

@Rob Slightly off-topic. I have reached 90k MR via referral on my gold card and that is why in the last referral, instead of receiving 14k I only got 4k (due to reaching the cap). Can I ask CS to add “remaining” 10k to my other AMEX card (BA) where I am the main cardholder? It’s a pity to miss those extra points!
