‘Avios only’ flights are back!

British Airways has released four short-haul flights for August 2025 where EVERY seat in both cabins is available for Avios redemption.

These flights only became bookable on Friday morning and no publicity has gone out, so you can jump in and take your pick.

New Avios only flights launched

Here are your options:

Ibiza, from London City

  • Flying out on Friday 8th August at 14.45
  • Flying back on Friday 15th August at 11.25

Palma de Mallorca, from London City

  • Flying out on Friday 15th August at 15.00
  • Flying back on Friday 22nd August at 11.00

Corfu, from Heathrow

  • Flying out on Saturday 23rd August at 11.50
  • Flying back on Friday 29th August at 16.30

Split, from Heathrow

  • Flying out on Saturday 23rd August at 07.15
  • Flying back on Friday 29th August at 14.15

How do you book Avios-only flights?

It is identical to booking any other Avios flight. Go to ba.com, search for Avios flights and these services will (if seats remain) show.

You can use Barclaycard upgrade vouchers or British Airways American Express 2-4-1 companion vouchers if you wish, and the usual cancellation rules (the lowest of £35 per person or the cash supplement paid) apply.

Be wary of booking Club Europe seats from London City, because the benefits are limited. There is no lounge at the airport (although you would get lounge access on your return), no fast track security and all seating is 2×2 so there is no empty middle seat. The key benefit is the meal and, as you’re sat in front of the emergency exit, more leg room.

  • sayling says:

I had a pop up notification for these from the Avios app about 10 o’clock this morning.

Perhaps this is where the IT investment is going, what with the search and award seat availability notifications functionality recently – and very quietly – released

    • sayling says:

      At 10:43, actually

      • Joe says:

yeah I was very impressed. Rob still gets the credit tho as he encouraged me to download the app. I’m on the Corfu ones as a potential second summer (didn’t see Split) as already off to Orlando (old virgin redemption!) at start of the summer…

  • MadeUpName says:

Thanks Rob. Interesting pricing mixes – the lowest avios most cash looks best value for Split in economy

    • Rob says:

      Just saw that myself.

    • Mark says:

That’s the case for many, if not all short haul flights. We usually do lowest Avios, highest cash and it saves more Avios for the long haul trips.

  • Guernsey Globetrotter says:

On the lounge access point when returning, we did this year’s Avios only trip to Corfu in CE. BA passengers were turned away from the Goldair lounge, much to the annoyance of some passengers who complained (loudly!). We got in using Priority Pass via Amex and it was a decent place to spend an hour or so.

  • The Savage Squirrel says:

In a classic case of your brain seeing what it wants to see rather than what’s there, for a moment I read this headline as Avios Only Flights to Australia. That was an exciting 3 seconds 😀

  • Richie says:

Arriving early to Split is very good if you want to get a ferry to you Hvar, Vis or other islands.

  • NicktheGreek says:

Finally gives me a half decent reason to use the ever accumulating Barclays vouchers.

76.5k Avios and £75 in business for 3 return to Palma. Wouldn’t have considered it previously, but this seems a good deal.

It’s this kind of initiative that’ll just continue to stoke my goodwill whilst Virgin does the opposite.

  • Nico says:

Friday/friday or sat/friday a little weird, BA kept prime slots for revenue flights

    • BA Flyer IHG Stayer says:

You aren’t restricted to just returning on the avios only flight.

You can return on any flight with avios seats thus controlling how long your stay is.

      • Nico says:

For sure, meant to say good option, but far from perfect timing wise, which is fair enough.

    • lcylocal says:

Sat 27th/Sun 28th are the last weekend of the school holidays I think. I would guess existing flights reasonably heavily booked for this far out and few spare aircraft and slots available to add flights.

Saturday to Friday over the bank holiday week is still a decent break and does give the weekend to get ready for work/school so I think will be popular with families.

  • Londonsteve says:

Kudos to BA for offering this to desirable destinations at busy times of year. I wonder what the cannibalisation rate of these flights is, i.e. how many of these Avios flyers would have paid good money to fly to the same destinations? Quite apart from that there’s the loss of cash revenue so this is a generous gesture and serves to provide the value add that makes BAEC so popular.

    • memesweeper says:

These are flights that in all likelihood would have sold out, so undoubtably cannibalisation of cash fares. Well done BA/IAG Loyalty.

I booked on the ski one last season and I would have paid real money otherwise (but not necessarily BA, and not necessarily to Geneva!)

      • Londonsteve says:

Ski destinations during February half term are probably an even bigger financial sacrifice for the airline so double kudos to them for offering them. I’d imagine perhaps even the majority of people that booked Avios seats on these flights might have otherwise paid whatever BA was charging in cash. Compared to the overall cost of a ski holiday during that week, expensive flights are but a drop in an ocean of monumental expenditure, less so for a Greek beach holiday in August (which can also be very expensive, but not to the level of skiing during Feb half term).
