Get a 60% bonus when you buy Avios via Qatar Airways Privilege Club – as low as 1.09p

Qatar Airways (yes Qatar Airways, not British Airways) has launched a new ‘buy Avios’ bonus promotion. The link to buy is here.

It is branded as a ‘mystery bonus’ but most people appear to get 60% when you buy 60,000 Avios or more. Some see a lower offer of 50%.

This is a flash offer which only runs to 2nd February.

You can buy on this page of the Qatar Airways Privilege Club website.

60% bonus when you buy Avios via Qatar Airways Privilege Club

The Avios can only be credited to a Qatar Airways Privilege Club account. You can move them into a British Airways Executive Club account by linking your BA and Qatar Airways accounts via the process here.

There is no minimum purchase, although your bonus depends on how many Avios you buy.  Some people are getting a bonus lower than 60% – my wife had 50%. For me, the 60% limit kicked in with a purchase of 60,000 Avios.

You can only buy if there has previously been ‘activity’ on your Qatar Airways Privilege Club account. Transferring in 1,000 points at 1:1 from American Express Membership Rewards would count and these transfers should be instant. Recent feedback from readers is that doing a transfer from British Airways to Qatar Airways may no longer work for ‘activating’ an account.

What does it cost?

At the top end, if you have a 60% bonus, you will pay 1.09p per Avios under this offer.

This is more expensive than the Finnair Plus promotion before Christmas. However, as that offer has now closed and was a one-off in terms of generosity, it isn’t really a comparator. This Qatar Airways deal is the best offer currently available.

The most you can buy is 250,000 Avios with (if you have a 60% bonus) a 150,000 bonus, for a total of 400,000 Avios for £4,375.

Based on my spreadsheet of the last 9 million Avios I redeemed, I got 1.23p of value – and this is based on very conserative valuations for the flights I booked. If you have a plan to use the Avios, because you should never buy speculatively, then this is not a bad opportunity.

You can check pricing and buy on this page of the Qatar Airways Privilege Club website.

If you’re lucky enough to have been accumulating Avios via the BA Subscription scheme since it started, your price per Avios is 0.89p. The Qatar offer at, say, 1.23p doesn’t stack up at all well against it. It’s therefore an “Avoid” for us.

  • BJ says:

BA have brought back their one time offer to boost all the previous years avios. Through Monday 3 February you can boost all of your 2024 avios (presumably only those not already boosted?).

  • jannis says:

    not hot deal

  • GRAEME says:

Anyone got the details? I dont have any Avios in my qatar account so wont show me.

  • MT says:

Only 40% offer for me. The 6x Avios boost still works out better value than the deal for me.

  • Andy says:

    Hi,

Here what I have from the current BA Avios balance boost offer – I’m not sure anything more than 100% match is worth it?

    £2,350 for 244,830 avios (100% boost) – 0.96p per avios
    £6,177 for 489,660 avios (200% boost) – 1.2p per avios
    £10,450 for 734,490 avios (300% boost) – 1.4p per avios
    £14,784 for 979,320 avios (400% boost) – 1.5p per avios

I don’t understand the incentive to go for anything about 100% – the pricing of this seems off the scale?

Anyone else see the same thing?

  • Gerry says:

Avios boost let’s you buy Avios at 0.92p (up to 300k when higher pricing kicks in), so the numbers work better.

  • Eddie says:

Sadly only a 40% QR Avios bonus for me, so won’t be buying
