Liverpool John Lennon airport to get a new 200-seat Aspire lounge this summer

There is good news for HfP readers travelling through Liverpool John Lennon airport, with the announcement of a brand new Aspire lounge.

Aspire and the airport appear to be going for it in a big way. This isn’t a modest expansion of the existing space – it is totally new lounge in a new location which will seat 200 people.

This is triple the capacity of the existing lounge and must surely put an end to any access issues for Priority Pass holders.

Aspire is continuing with its tiered approach, with the lounge consisting of two parts.

Luxe by Aspire will be an adults-only space with premium drinks and food and ‘private booths’. I suspect that this will be available to Priority Pass holders for a surcharge and will be the default lounge for (the very few) business class passengers.

The main lounge will presumably be focussed on the Priority Pass market, although both lounges will obviously be bookable for cash too.

Unlike the new Aspire lounge complex in Newcastle, there will not be a super-premium area with table service.

In another key development, the lounge will even have its own toilets – something which is missing from the current Aspire lounge!

The airport said:

With a nod to the City’s iconic Liver Building, this fantastic new lounge will have a look and feel that will reflect the area and city region.

The increased capacity and improved facilities will have a real premium feel, giving those passengers looking for somewhere special to relax before their departure, a great start to their journey from Liverpool.

We are also creating a space that will be able to accommodate the growing numbers of passengers using Liverpool both now and into the future too.

David Collyer at Aspire said:

Airport lounges have seen a marked increase in demand from passengers looking for an elegant space to relax, whether for business or pleasure. The addition of ‘Luxe by Aspire’ will mark a real step-change in delivering the premium service our guests are looking for.

We look forward to creating a truly exceptional lounge experience in Liverpool, where travellers can unwind or work, all while enjoying the luxury of a premium hotel atmosphere.

Aspire will hopefully organise a media event as they did with the Newcastle launch which will give us a chance to take a look. There is no opening date apart from ‘summer’, with construction already underway.

  • Domo1915 says:

Remember the lounge being 10% full when i went and they were turning away walk up priority pass members for being “fully booked”. It was laughable. Quite rightly people were getting annoyed. I was lucky they made an exception because i was travelling along. Why is it only in the UK they get away with this.

    • BA Flyer IHG Stayer says:

Not been to the one at Schiphol have you?

Always a queue there of people trying to get in without pre booking.

Even harder when there’s an Emirates flight due to depart.

    • Sandgrounder says:

I have had this once, but tbf a lot of people turned up within the next hour. The could have let me in for the 15 minutes I offered to stay though!
      Glad to see it expanded.

    • Paul says:

I was first in the queue at 4am. And was turned away because it was full. Clearly nobody there yet.

Pre booking is the only way. But as i have to pay for each visit on my dragon pass, i don’t want pay to book too. Better to spend my thirty quid in starbucks. Much better food for the money

      • Sandgrounder says:

Mornings are always the worst, I’ve had one fail and one near miss early doors in the summer but never been turned away later in the day. And I wouldn’t pay a fiver of my own money let alone £30!

    • James says:

      Just wondering what’s “travelling along”?

  • Mike says:

    KLM to LPL…?

  • SammyJ says:

The existing lounge is without a doubt the worst I’ve ever been to, so any improvement has to be good.

  • TimM says:

This is good news indeed for those wish to avoid the dreaded ‘Manchester Airport Experience’.

  • Bill says:

The new lounge is going to go in the old Frankie and Bennie’s unit. On a Liverpool related note, they have almost finished installing new scanners.

  • Ken says:

Can’t remember when KLM last flew out of Liverpool….

Would be great if either them or Lufthansa returned, but can’t see it.

    • Rob says:

Sorry, I assumed they did, meant to check and then forgot to check. How can you fly from Humberside and not Liverpool?

      • Nick says:

Ignorance of airline history there Rob! Until a few years ago Humberside was actually a Cityhopper base with UK pilots and cabin crew – a legacy from the old Air UK days. The only staff left now are engineering at Norwich but the historic route remained with crew transferred to AMS (if they wanted to stay).

LPL was never a route with such a deep history. It was launched and ran successfully for a few years… but a bit too successfully, as they found it cannibalised too much of their MAN traffic. So to streamline slots and yields, they consolidated again.

  • Bill says:

This was posted elsewhere by someone with knowledge of the security scanner installation at LPL:

the build of all 6 lanes is complete however we continue to have software problems with the 3 latest lanes meaning you’ll see 6 lanes but for now only 3 are operational. We’re working hour by hour with the provider, Leidos to fix this.

  • Steve says:

Finally, the current offering is nothing more than a spare bit of shop space with free beer and some nibbles!
My partner and myself got in the other week on priority pass but were asked to sit at the front bit only and not on the comfy chairs, felt like we were rejects because we had passes
