British Airways launches a rare 40% off Avios sale to Salerno

It’s rare for British Airways to offer Avios seats at reduced prices, so it is worth flagging up a promotion currently running on the new Salerno route.

Salerno, in the Campania Region of Italy, is so new that it hasn’t even launched yet.

Flights will start on 22nd May 2025. Services will end on 25th October.

BA launches a rare 40% off Avios sale to Salerno

It is a Gatwick service with flights departing three times per week on Monday, Thursday and Saturday.

It’s not just the route which is new – so is the airport! Salerno Costa d’Amalfi Airport opened to commercial flights in July 2024 and offers an alternative to Naples for anyone looking to reach the Amalfi Coast.

According to BA:

Those looking to explore the wider Amalfi Coast are drawn in by its dramatic coastline, lush scenery and the charm of its towns, such as Positano, Amalfi, and Ravello, which overlook the glistening Mediterranean Sea.

Salerno itself features ocean views, lively piazzas, delicious local cuisine, and historical attractions, making it a popular destination for travellers seeking a blend of beach, foodie and cultural activities in a mild Mediterranean climate.

Save 20% or 40% on Avios redemptions

Avios seats to Salerno are reduced if you book by 16th April.

Economy flights are reduced by 40%. Business flights are reduced by 20%.

Only the Avios element is reduced – the cash part is unchanged.

This is what you pay, return, in Euro Traveller / Economy on an off-peak date:

Using our ‘1p rule’ where you work out the best option by assuming an Avios is worth 1p, the best value option will be one of the bottom three for Economy and the bottom four for Business. It’s interesting that, even with 20% to 40% off the Avios element, the £1 / £25 options are still not the cheapest.

The gap between Economy and Business is stark with the discount. Using our ‘1p rule’, you will pay £125-ish in Economy and £300-ish in Business. It’s a big difference even if you don’t have lounge access and fast track via British Airways Club status.

The special offer runs to 16th April.

  • RC says:

Perhaps already seeing less US tourists connecting onto this flight?
Not just current news issues, as US airlines have put a lot of flying into Naples and Sicily this summer. Why ‘enjoy’ the Heathrow transfer experience when you can fly directly?

  • Roberto says:

This promo appeared over the weekend and I booked for August, but the Avios I ‘paid’ were higher then those in the article, by about 10k (for 3 people). I accessed it via the tile in the app as that is how I found out about it. Is it worth complaining to BA about the amount of Avios?
    (basically, 3 business seats return)

    • pauldb says:

Most of August is peak, which is probably why your flights cost more that the off peak examples above.

      • Roberto says:

Thank you, misread the original tile on the app. You are spot on.

  • MGW says:

What a shame this new route is from LGW and not LHR. Otherwise this would be perfect for my work trips from EDI to Salerno. The new airport is so easy to get to/from, unlike NAP.
I do still wonder if the timings would allow for EDI-LHR/LCY, transfer, LGW-QSR in a day. A quick glance and that’s a big fat ‘no’ for the return, which necessities an overnight in London!

    • kevin86 says:

Why not from MAN? It should be called London airways! 😡

    • Stephen says:

Yep. The usual with BA. So I will just fly Easyjet to NAP again. It will be cheaper, faster, more convenient and less likely to have the schedule changed multiple times before departure.

  • Nick says:

Have booked first and asking questions later with limited experience of Amalfi area. Any recommendations for a decent baby/family friendly hotel or resort along the coast that doesnt require an oligarch’s budget?

    • The Savage Squirrel says:

It’s Amalfi. Not ever going to be low budget in peak times. Hotel points can definitely be your friend here though.

    • Roberto says:

One thing I did find out after booking, you do not have the usual “range” of car rental options. Prices were ok though.

  • Luca Barbato says:

Does anyone still see the discounted rates? If I have a look an off peak return is 23000 avios + 1£ which is full price right? Thank you all!
