IHG One Rewards has announced a new global promotion which, interestingly, will sit alongside its OTHER global promotion that we covered a couple of weeks ago.

IHG One Rewards is the loyalty scheme covering InterContinental, Holiday Inn, Holiday Inn Express and Hotel Indigo amongst other brands. However, none of those brands are taking part in this new offer as you will see!

You need to register for the ‘triple points’ bonus here.

IHG accounts registered outside Europe, the Middle East and Africa will not be able to register.

You can learn more about IHG One Rewards in our overview article here.

How does IHG’s new bonus points promotion work?

The offer runs from 1st July to 30th September.

This is slightly different to the main global promotion (‘2,000 bonus points for every two nights’) which runs to 31st August. You can register for that offer here.

You must register for this new offer in advance via this link. Registration is now open.

What will you earn?

You will earn TRIPLE BASE POINTS for every cash stay during the offer period at these brands:

  • Crowne Plaza
  • voco
  • Vignette Collection
  • Candlewood Suites
  • Garner Hotels

Realistically, as a UK resident, only the first three brands – Crowne Plaza, voco and Vignette Collection – are likely to be relevant, and to be honest only Crowne Plaza and voco are well represented.

Existing bookings DO count so there is no need to rebook anything.  Only one room per stay counts towards the offer, so if you are booking multiple rooms you should put each in a different name.

What is the bonus worth?

The standard earning rate in IHG One Rewards is 10 points per US$1 (75p) excluding taxes.  I value an IHG One Rewards point at 0.4p although you can often do better, which means your base return is 4p per 75p spent, ie just over 5.0%.

Triple base points means that you would receive 30 points per US$1 (75p) spent, excluding taxes, which gives you a return of 16%.

You would also receive a status bonus on your base points:

  • 20% bonus for Silver Elite
  • 40% bonus for Gold Elite
  • 60% bonus for Platinum Elite
  • 100% bonus for Diamond Elite

A Platinum Elite member would therefore receive 36 points per $1 spent – 10 points x 3 plus an extra 6 points as the Platinum Elite bonus.

You would ALSO receive your bonus points for the standard IHG promotion for summer, which is 2,000 bonus points for every two cash nights you stay or 8,000 bonus points for every four cash nights. You can register for that offer here and read more here.

Conclusion

This is an attractive offer, and far better than the version that ran last year. Adding Crowne Plaza makes it far easier to find participating hotels.

The offer kicks in for stays from 1st July but you can register today.

    Links not working?

  • John says:

    Several Garners in Germany

Showing as no longer available on my app

Unless one plans to travel over the summer, which is surely the point of staying in a hotel anyway?

  • Simon Goddard says:

Link doesn’t work? Is the offer withdrawn?

    • Andrew J says:

If you’re trying to register on your phone and you have the app installed it does keep going round in circles to open the app, where you can’t register – I got there in the end and have the confirmation email.

4 night £300/$400 theory Garner Booking
    – 40k points Diamond (40 Points/$)
    – 8k Summer bonus
    – £75 back on BA amex
    – Quidco 3-6% or Rakuten 10% if foot in US 🙂

    £300 – £75 – £192 48k@4p points valuation = £33 (pre Quidco, I think!)

    • John says:

      1) Assuming UK, you don’t earn points and cashback on 20% VAT

      2) not sure where 40k comes from. $333 × 40 = 13320 points

      10% cashback on £250 is £25

So pay £200 for 4 nights and get 21k points (USD 105) – works out at £30 per night

    • BA Flyer IHG Stayer says:

      “300 – £75 – £192 48k@4p points valuation = £33 (pre Quidco, I think!)”

Where does your 4p/point valuation come from?

48k points does not equate to £192!

You are severely egging the pudding there.

      • ba says:

I think he means 0.004p. On a 100% points promotion, points can be purchased for $0.005, so roughly 0.004p.

What multiplier would you use to value IHG points?

  • Jon says:

“IHG accounts registered outside Europe, the Middle East and Africa will not be able to register.”

    Asia is apparently also included.

  • Indo555 says:

“Realistically, as a UK resident, only the first three brands – Crowne Plaza, voco and Vignette Collection – are likely to be relevant,” – there is a new Garner Hotel in Edinburgh.
