American Express brings back its cardmember lounge at Wimbledon

The American Express cardmember lounge is returning to Wimbledon for the 2025 tournament which starts on Monday.

Assuming nothing has changed, here are some photos from 2022 taken by reader Alex. Hopefully it will be sunnier this year!

There are also a few other Amex ‘happenings’ going on, including the return of the Amex Pavilion.

Visit the American Express Wimbledon Cardmember Lounge

The American Express lounge is located by Gate 12, behind No 3 Court.

Any American Express cardholder can enter the lounge, irrespective of the country where their card was issued. I’m not sure about opening hours for 2025, but last year it opened at 10.30am and closed at 7pm, with last entry at 6.30pm.

Each cardholder can take up to two guests into the lounge.

If nothing has changed, the lounge will not have any toilets. You have to leave the lounge and rejoin the queue to get back in, which is clearly not ideal.

You get a great view over the outside courts (rain permitting):

Whilst the lounge has a bar and serves snacks, these are not free.

In general, unless things have changed, the size of the queue to enter the lounge is generally seen as not justifying the benefits of being inside.

One mistake, arguably, is that there is no priority entry for holders of premium American Express cards. A Platinum cardholder paying £650 per year might have hoped for priority over a free American Express Cashback cardholder.

Returning for 2025 – the Amex Pavilion

Back following what was presumably a successful launch in 2024, the Amex Pavilion – situated on the Hill – offers you the opportunity to try an array of interactive games and enjoy a cafe on the lower level.

Amex cardmembers, along with two guests, will have exclusive access to the second floor viewing platform. This offers the best views of the large screen on the Hill.

Based on 2024, the Amex Pavilion is open from 10am to 9pm or 30 minutes after the last ball if earlier.

The Amex Experience returns

The Amex Experience is back this year in the Southern Village. It is free and open to all. Activities this year will include:

  • Wimbledon themed games
  • ‘epic photo moments’
  • the chance to send a postcard anywhere in the world
  • a tennis ball customisation station
  • an Amex Tennis Charm to collect and accesorise your look

Last year it was open from 10am to 9pm in Week 1 and 10am to 7pm in Week 2.

An exclusive £20 cashback offer

There’s a special cashback offer for purchases on site.  If you spend £140 or more in the grounds during the tournament on your card you’ll get £20 back.  You can only get the cashback once per card.

Registration is required. You should see this offer in the Amex app or on your online statement page.

Cardmembers also get an exclusive 20% discount on all online purchases at The Official Wimbledon Store until 21st July.

Amex complimentary radios return

Once again, you can pick up a complimentary radio headset from American Express kiosks around the grounds, as well as in the Queue, the Cardmember Lounge and the Fan Experience.

These offer three channels of commentary.

In previous years you have to been able to leave radios to be recycled at the exit gates.

You get last-minute Centre Court seat availability

As in previous years, American Express cardholders have exclusive access to seat returns for Centre Court.

The way these are distributed has varied from year to year. All American Express is saying is ‘Follow Amex UK on social media for more information’ and that ‘Tickets will be released across three sales windows between 28 June – 10 July 2025.’

I got tickets via this route a few years ago and found myself in the media area – my seat came with a little desk to type on!

Such a missed opportunity to turn that lounge into an earning opp for Amex to recoup some costs. Sell it as a Plat experience alongside a grounds pass, ensuring it is filled with confirmed guests.

The current setup of a queue and pay as you go F&B ends up impressing no one. From what I have heard from others, most whirl in fron the queue and swiftly depart.

I have not bothered attending Wimbledon for a few years now as the ticketing process is so unnecessarily arcane. So much easier to buy the exact tickets you want for any number of top tier tour events, and I dare say I find the crowds at them rather more knowledgeable about what’s going on on court than those once in a blue moon attendees at SW19. I am of course a total snob but there’s nothing quite like the continental style at a clay court final

Will there also be any form of Amex access to last-minute ground tickets, or was that just some hazy post-lockdown memory I have?!

The Pavilion was fun and easy to enter last year.

Sorry, I was specifying the previously much more accessible/freely available “ground tickets” as opposed to the minimal “seat returns for Centre Court”!!

I got centre court tickets via Amex in 2021. I saw Federer and Djokovic (not playing each other)

Don’t think grounds passes have ever been on sale online to public – normally reserved for the queue.

  • George K says:

I’ll be at the men’s men’s semis this year and will try to drop by. Amex usually has the best sort of merch, even at events where there are thousands of people…

  • Bob says:

Amex UK last tweeted on X in March 2024 so not sure they’ll be offering any tickets via that platform.

  • Bob says:

Off topic but what a piss take by Wimbledon and Evian charging £5 for water from water fountains.

Watch airports and others follow suit as water bottle producers realise that the majority can survive on non-bottled free water.

    • David says:

Wow. That is a new low.

    • ken says:

Obviously you can spend as much as you want at Wimbledon but mis-information abounds, and it can be a fantastic value day out

There are free water fountains available as well. Obviously if you are from the north, you might find London water undrinkable.

The Evian fountains are for a QR code that allows unlimited refills all day for £5.

The £30 first week grounds pass is the best value ticket in all UK sport
So for 2 of you, you are paying £2.50 each. I think that’s fair enough.

Strawberries & cream are still less than £3. You can bring as much food in as you want and something like a bottle of wine per person.
Try doing that at almost all other UK mainstream sports venues.

  • ken says:

obviosly £2.50 each for water !
