Qatar Airways completes Starlink wi-fi roll-out on its Boeing 777 fleet

  I’ve just flown a 777 from Manila to Doha and starlink was awesome. I achieved just under 200mb but it was rapid throughout…..and kept me up to date with the cricket.

  I’m still torn on whether it’s a good thing as I enjoy not being contactable whilst flying. We’re about to board a 787 to London so will happily go back to a book and a movie for the next 7 hours.

    Sometimes when I want to disconnect, I tell people “the plane WiFi isn’t working” even when it does !

  I flew on a 777-300ER on Wednesday and there definitely was no starlink. Just standard internet and it cost $10 for the full flight. I was on a first class redemption (which was great!) and still wasn’t free. Why would it have been missing from this flight?

    I think the leased 777s (ex-VA and ex-CX) don’t have starlink, and as far as I know there are no plans to fit it to them. You’d probably have been on the latter as I’m pretty sure they’re the only 777s Qatar have with an F cabin.

      Yeah, I keep getting the ex-Virgin/Cathay 777s, none of which have Starlink. So when Qatar says “its ENTIRE 777 fleet”, it actually means “all EXCEPT 9” of them, so you’ve got around an 80% chance of Starlink on 77Ws (or practically zero on certain SE Asian routes)

  I will use the mention of Iberia as a loose segway. Has anyone had any success adding Iberia as an Amex points transfer partner? Due to my outrageous (standard?) 9 digit Iberia FF number, AMEX won’t accept it. And chat help has not been successful

    I’ve no idea but going to suggest trying the last 8 digits as cutting digits off the front works with some other transfers.

    Newer IB FF numbers consist of 9 digits which has been a problem for a long time now when trying to add it to Amex MR. I think it’s pretty much impossible to add it. Only the older 8 digit numbers work. Mine has been added for over 10 years.

  The trouble is that the spending avios doesn’t seem to work. I converted avios into two £50 vouchers. Tried to use them at World Duty Free in Heathrow terminal 3 and was told that I couldn’t. The vouchers wouldn’t scan at the till and I was told by a manager that the only way they will work is if you request paper copies which take two weeks to arrive. I complained to Club Avolta who just refunded the avios. No explanation of why the vouchers didn’t work and if they ever will fix the problem.

  Having recently flown Qatar on a 777 with starling the speed is brilliant

  The service is still very good too. Al Safwa is still a great lounge too it was night and day vs the hustle and bustle in the business lounge.

  The London lounge was great too
