News in brief:

What is happening with the British Airways Glasgow lounge?

The British Airways lounge at Glasgow Airport suffered a serious flood on 6th August.

I assumed that the damage could be cleared up quickly but it seems that the process is going to take a while. It is even possible that BA decides to use the opportunity to bring forward some refurbishment work that had been planned for 2026.

If you are flying from Glasgow in the near future, this is lounge situation:

Both are acceptable alternatives, I think. You can double-check the current position via the oneworld alliance lounge directory here.

Mandarin Oriental launches a new American Express deal

The luxury Mandarin Oriental hotel group has launched another American Express cashback offer.

You will get £100 cashback when you spend £500+ by 21st November. Cumulative spend does NOT count, which is a change from when this offer last ran.

As usual you need to opt in, if targetted, via the Amex website before booking.

Participating properties are: Barcelona, Boston, Geneva, Hong Kong, London (x2), Luzern, Munich, New York, Paris, Chou-ku and Zurich.

If booking, get a quote from our hotel booking partner Emyr Thomas first. He can access additional benefits, for the same price as the Best Flexible Rate, as he is a Mandarin Oriental Fan Club appointed agent.

There is no booking fee when using Emyr and you pay at check-out as usual, which will trigger the cashback.

I beg to differ! I used the upper deck via priority pass the day after the flood and before BA had made arrangements. The staff were awful, the food dreadful and the place looked a mess. The Lomond lounge on the other hand is not too shabby!

    • Barrel for Scraping says:

Considering their review of the lounges were both before covid and covid started over 5 years ago now they don’t really have an up to date opinion on these lounges

      • Rob says:

I’ve been in there post covid, just didn’t update the review. By comparison to most third party UK lounges I think it’s decent enough. Daylight for a start.

  • Chris says:

I assume the ‘adults only’ restriction is dropped for this? I’m travelling on Friday morning in CE with my son who is 16. Wouldn’t ordinarliy be allowed in the Lomond Lounge.

  • DO says:

We were in upperdeck last week, some of the usual BA lounge staff are now there and it was an improvement on my previous visit with priority pass. However the food offering remains woeful and drinks offering not exactly in line with what you’d expect… We had kids with us, didn’t attempt Lomond although hadn’t been signposted to either at bag drop so who knows.

  • DHA says:

Upperdeck is dreadful, you know any lounge with a drinks limit likely attracts the sort of people who can’t be trusted to drink free alcohol responsibly.

    • Nico says:

4 drinks quite a few tbh… I’d be all for some alcohol free lounges with better food offering

  • Graham says:

As others have said Upperdeck has a pretty woeful food and drinks offering. Miles off BA lounge.

  • Mark says:

To be fair, my only experiences of Upper Deck are at 5 or 6am when its got four tables, and the bacon rolls are hot and I can get a good coffee.
    No complaints from me.

  • Jmac says:

When they aren’t at capacity, I was knocked back and told to walk 10 mins to collect a voucher – not to be used at Pret or on alcohol! Euro Traveller / Gold 7pm

  • Michael says:

Are there any good value Mandarin Oriental hotels or deals to be had?

(A quick search of their London properties shows rooms start at roughly £1,000 per night.
Obviously those prices means MO caters for the few, plus corporates, and I’m assuming a £100 credit isn’t a deal-breaker to them.)
