I don’t recall ever getting food pre-COVID, but you did used to get a couple of vouchers for nice drinks. That vanished at some point during COVID, though at that point you were pretty lucky to find an Admirals club lounge open. Doesn’t seem to have returned.
If you’re BA Gold or flying on an AA international flight in business or first (plus a few other special cases), at the bigger hubs you get Flagship Lounge access. That comes with free food and drink – https://www.aa.com/i18n/travel-info/clubs/flagship-lounge.jsp . Doesn’t help if you’re on a BA flight without a suitable shiny card though
