We booked through an operator but stayed in one hotel. They offered a lot of activities (dog sledding is epic) and it would have been cheaper to book direct. The hotel is adults only though so would not fit you specifically. We flew to Rovaniemi from LGW which was Norwegian at the time and it was a short drive in a taxi from there.
Looking at Beana Laponia just now (adults only remember) it’s €1500 for 4 nights in February which is when we went as we wanted to stay in the height of winter.
Make sure you stay somewhere that provides all the clothing and equipment you need. It can be very cold and I doubt anybody I doubt anybody in the UK has the right clothing. Our winter coats at the time were hopeless.
