For our family of three, it took six months until all of us were finally credited for our short- and long-haul flights on Malaysia Airlines metal, so I’d be cautious if tier points are factoring heavily into any decision making to purchase cash tickets.
Despite these concerns, in-flight experiences, however, have generally been positive and have had some good redemptions in the past (e.g., KUL-DPS in business).
