The Founders Card also has a one-off Silver membership upgrade after one paid revenue round trip VS flight. although the lowest fee I’ve ever seen is $590 for 2 years ($295 pa). Otherwise, as you say, it’s via the flying route. In which case, a consolation is that with VS you earn tier points on reward flights too. You can earn silver status with two UC return redemptions in your membership year.
