There’s some solid fares out of Milan through a combo of Qatar Airways and Sri Lankan (it’s a Sri Lankan Airlines fare):
FCO-DOH-CMB-MEL
That yields 840 tier points round trip (FCO-DOH is Qatar Operated on UL code, the rest are Sri Lankan operated).
You would need to back track from Melbourne to get to Perth but it’s only a 3 hour flight and you can redeem Avios on QF fairly cheaply.
Book through Sri Lankan direct, Sydney available too if you use the multi-city tool and input legs individually.
Roundtrip fare Milan to Melbourne can be had for around £2,300 in Business class.
How do you price it up? The Sri Lankan website doesn’t seem to allow FCO-DOH, so I’m failing at the first hurdle.
