Hi @Aston100
I knew you’d be back to considering Sth. Korea.
And I am also heading to ICN in May. The weather should be very pleasant.
My daughter has moved now to the south west of the city so I am going to pick up an apartment down that way probably. Both the hotels I stayed in previously have closed (is it me?). The Hilton is permanent, the IC Coex is temporary.
Myeongdong is a great place to stay. You are close to Gyeongbokgung Palace, the traditional Hanok village (though I’m told there is a bit of over tourism going on there so there may be restrictions) Museums and the diplomatic areas. You are close to the Lotte shopping area and hotel and also Namsan tower and hill from where you get a great view of the city.
Apartments (and therefore Airbnb’s ) can be really small. My daughter previously stayed in a tiny place that was really a modern studio with the bed on a platform. But this is normal. Most Seoul residents either eat out or get a delivery. Cooking is not so normal. But the properties are really well designed for the small space.
8 days is good. The trains are really good if you want to get out the city for the day and of course you can book a trip to the DMZ. Food markets and the Han riverside are also nice to visit.
I think we are going to head to Busan at some point for a few days.
If you have any further questions I’ll try to answer them for you.
