Hi
We really appreciated all the previous advice in here about New vs Old Club suites with respect to kids. In the end it was taken out of our hands as for Easter 2024, BA now seem to be running both the Miami services as A380 so therefore presumably old Club.
We’re not debating whether to bother booking a bassinet seat or not. Our third will be about 21months old when we fly, half the outbound flight will (hopefully!) be asleep, and fingers cross all of the inbound.
At that age, the 75th centile on weight is the 12.5kg limit of the bassinet seat so fairly good chance he’d qualify when we flew. The debate we’re having is how practical it really is when they’re getting on for 2. Felt high up on bulkhead with our first when he was one, and we just can’t remember how likely a 2year old would be to be strapped down up there and comply!
You might say what have you lost by trying and just booking a bassinet seat anyway. But if there is a fair chance its impractical we’d much rather book elsewhere where we can have windows not over the wing and rear row seats where the second window has direct aisle access without clambering over stranger legs (as would be better for the kids to take that).
Also, any tips on how else it works with infants. Sleeping them between your legs, on the floor in front of the seat in upright position etc etc.
Thank you!Bulk head seats should give you a bit more floor space. I doubt near 2 yr olds would be comfortable in the bassinet.
They can be too tall for bassinets and younger infants frequently are.
I don’t think ours really fitted after six months. No hope for a two year old!
What they said^
We flew overnighters with Kermit when he was 20 and 21 months. We took the centre rear facing bassinet seats. We didn’t even try to put Kermit in the bassinet then and he wasn’t a big kid. We did actually manage to squeeze him in a bassinet at 17 months but it was tight.
You won’t be allowed to put your kid on the floor. They don’t even like kids playing on the floor as any turbulence and they could hit their head on random metal stuff on the seat. At least that was what we were told when we were asked not to let our kid play on the floor.
In our case Kermit slept very happily on my flat bed and I dozed somewhat awkwardly on my side vaguely spooning him. I am a slender fellow though! I don’t remember not finding it manageable. I do remember Mrs Froggee and the crew thinking that I was heroic. Kermit was happy as Larry with a warm bod next to him. I imagine the other passengers breathed a sigh of relief on disembarking that the infant didn’t scream at all.
14E and 14F would be the Best seat on the a380 as a couple which coincidentally is the bassinet seat. I always go for these as you can sit next to each other so but more spacious and both of you have aisle access and no one needs to jump over you.
Would you be able to manage with child on your lap(s) for the entire flight if they were too big for the bassinet or there was excessive turbulence?
I don’t think their sleeping on the floor would be permitted either,
They will not fit in. Our 15-month old did not.
Best approach is to go for two middle seats and hope that there is a spare seat somewhere in club.
I would also suggest taking a reel of masking tape with you. There are a huge number of illuminated buttons at bed level. They can be very distracting for a toddler. Mask them up!
