Forums Frequent flyer programs British Airways Club 300 points to Gold Status

  • 24 posts

    Hi guys,

I currently have 1200 tier points, so 300 left to reach gold. I’m not really interested in Gold per se (i don’t see much difference compared to Silver) but would be nice to reach Gold to assure me Silver for a longer period of time (soft landing).

I’m living in Buenos Aires and planning to travel to Madrid in January 2024. Can’t afford business so if i fly premium economy i’ll get 200 points, so not enough. I saw that BA has double tier points for Holidays Package but that only works if it originates in the UK which won’t be my case.

So what are my alternatives? I’ll have time when i’ll be in Madrid so i could book a 1 week vacations if it’s cheap. Unfortunately it’s gonna be winter in Europe so bad timing.

    Thanks

    So you’ll need 100?

Fly MAD to a non Spanish destinations in business such as LHR/AMS/LIS/CDG for 80 TP return

A MAD-BCN one way in business would get you other 20.

Or see about something like MAD-LHR-DUB-MAD or MAD-LHR-AMS-MAD which can be done in a day for 120

NOTE – I’ve not costed any of the above options up.

(According to the TP calculator it appears for Spanish internal flights you only get 20 not 40 points in business)

To get double TPs via a BA holiday booking you’d need to fly to the UK (on a separate booking) then do a BA Holiday including either hotel or car for 5 nights (which could be to MAD!) then back to MAD using the return from the original positioning flight. This could be done in economy but you’d need to be in the right fare buckets to get to 100

Not costed any of those up though.
